Synopsis

Air carrier Captain reported the use of a common ASOS/AWOS frequency for both BAC and MOT made it difficult to hear weather information due to the broadcasts being on top of each other.

Narrative

During initial descent into Minot (MOT); I attempted to listen to the ASOS for MOT to obtain the current weather conditions; however; the AWOS for Barnes County (BAC) was also being transmitted on the same frequency 118.725. Consequently; I was not able to make out the weather conditions for either airport. I listened to the ASOS again around 18;000 feet and this time I was barely able to make out the weather for MOT over the weather for BAC. I have experienced this issue multiple times flying from ZZZ to MOT. This is a safety concern as it decreases the time crews have to react to unforecast weather conditions and runway changes in MOT. There is also a concern that the wrong weather information will be copied as crews are trying to listen to two weather reports broadcast on top of each other.Cause: The use of a common ASOS/AWOS frequency of 118.725 for both Barnes County (BAC) and Minot (MOT).Suggestions: Changing the ASOS/AWOS frequency at either Barnes County (BAC) or Minot (MOT) would eliminate this issue.

Frequently asked questions

How do I search flights by aircraft type on FlightFinder?

Pick an aircraft model — Boeing 737, Airbus A320, A380, Boeing 787 Dreamliner and more — enter your origin airport, and FlightFinder shows every route that plane flies from there with live fares.

Which aircraft types can I filter by?

We support Boeing 737/747/757/767/777/787, the full Airbus A220/A319/A320/A321/A330/A340/A350/A380 family, Embraer E170/E175/E190/E195, Bombardier CRJ and Dash 8, and the ATR 42/72 turboprops.

Is FlightFinder free to use?

Search and schedules are free. Pro ($4.99/month, $39/year, or $99 one-time lifetime) unlocks the enriched flight card — on-time stats, CO₂ per passenger, amenities, live gate & weather — plus My Trips with push alerts.

Where does the route data come from?

Live schedules come from Amadeus, AeroDataBox and Travelpayouts. Observed routes (which aircraft actually flew a given city pair) are crowdsourced from adsb.lol ADS-B data under the Open Database License.
