B767 Captain reported ground personnel entered the safety area and dropped a bag in front of the right engine during taxi to the gate. Captain stopped aircraft to avoid collision.

Narrative

While taxiing to park with 2 wing walkers and a marshaller; a baggage loader (belt loader) entered the safety area in front of our right wing. I stopped the aircraft immediately while the marshaller continued to try to guide us to the gate. After realizing why I stopped; he gave me hold signal until the baggage loader cleared the area. After the baggage loader rapidly reversed out of the area; a bag was dropped in front of the right engine (The First Officer witnessed this). Fortunately I had shut down the right engine; or there would have been a good possibility that the bag would have been ingested by the right engine. Once the area was clear. We taxied forward to the tow-in spot; and we safely taxied to park without further issues.
