SMA TAXIES ONTO RWY THEN REALIZES WHERE HE IS; TAXIES OFF.
I WAS PARKED ON THE W END OF THE FBO'S RAMP. UPON RECEIVING CLRNC TO TAXI WITH HOLD SHORT OF RWY 6 INSTRUCTIONS; I TAXIED ONTO THE DEP END OF RWY 6. I THEN CLRED THE RWY; DID MY RUNUP AND DEPARTED. THE NEXT DAY I WAS ON THE RAMP AGAIN AND I WALKED OUT TO DETERMINE HOW I COULD HAVE MADE THE ERROR. I FOUND THAT THE RWY BROKEN LINE DID NOT EXTEND ALL THE WAY TO THE W END OF THE RAMP. ADDITIONALLY; THE VISUAL PRESENTATION WITH A RUNUP AREA ON THE N SIDE OF RWY 6 AND A CLOSED RWY BEYOND LEADS ONE TO THINK THAT RWY 6 IS FURTHER N THAN IT IS. THIS IS HARD TO DESCRIBE BUT SUFFICE IT TO SAY THAT WHEN I WALKED OUT TO SURVEY THE SITUATION THE NEXT DAY; IT FOOLED ME AGAIN. AT FIRST; I AGAIN THOUGHT THAT RWY 6 WAS BEHIND THE RUNUP PAD ON THE N SIDE OF 6. RECOMMEND THAT THE RWY LINE BE EXTENDED TO THE W TO ENCLOSE THE ENTIRE AREA. SOME OTHER VISUAL AID -- THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD MARKINGS ARE YELLOW; FURTHER LEADING ONE TO BELIEVE THAT IT'S A TAXIWAY. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: AN INQUIRY CALL WAS MADE TO THE ARPT CONCERNING PROBLEMS WITH THE HOLD LINE. ARPT STATES THAT THE HOLD LINE CONTINUES THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE TAXIWAY; IT IS NOT JUST A SHORT LINE ON A LARGE AREA. THE RPTR ALSO SAID THAT NOTICES HAVE BEEN POSTED AT THE LCL FBO'S ADVISING PLTS THAT THE HOLD LINE CONTINUES THE ENTIRE LENGTH. ARPT INDICATES THAT NEITHER THE TWR OR ARPT HAVE HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH PLTS CONFUSING THE HOLD LINE WITH OTHER MARKINGS.
