Narrative
When taking the active Runway 20L in BKK we suddenly noticed rocks covering the takeoff area and giant chunks of asphalt. It seems that previous departing aircraft blew a hole in the runway. I turned to taxi past it on the left edge of the runway and notified Tower. Aircraft Y's crew said our right engine went over an area of rocks. So we shut down the right engine and taxied back to the gate. We wrote it up to FOD check both engines. Aircraft signed off after inspection and engine run. Cause: Previous aircraft blew a hole in the runway on takeoff. It appeared that the hole was from a previous patch.
