Synopsis

B737 flight crew reported a ground conflict with a vehicle during taxi requiring evasive action.

Narrative

We were taxiing west on Taxiway 1 with instructions to turn right on Taxiway 2 then left on Taxiway 3. It was dark; our lights were on and our taxi light was on indicating we were moving. There were a lot of vehicles in the area; including three trucks south of Taxiway 1 doing tight turning circles with their orange flashing lights on; and I commented to the FO to keep a close eye out for vehicle traffic. Just before reaching Taxiway 2 a vehicle; which was parked in the area south of Taxiway 1 and just west of Taxiway 2; darted in front of us going north into the west side of the Taxiway 2 alley. I had to brake aggressively to ensure we did not get hit by the vehicle. We reported the incident to ground over the south frequency; who was also trying to call us about a change to our instructions.

Second reporter narrative

Our ATC clearance was taxi to the ramp via Taxiway 1; Taxiway 2; Taxiway 3 to Taxiway 4. It was night VMC conditions and there were a lot of vehicles driving in between taxiway 3 and 1. As we approached Taxiway 5; a vehicle parked on Taxiway 5 then suddenly drove in front of us on Taxiway 5 with very little warning or margin. The captain braked aggressively to maintain separation. The incident was reported to ground control.
