A320 flight crew reported a rejected takeoff due to ECAM indication. Flight returned to gate.
During initial takeoff roll from runway XX at approximately 75 knots; the aircraft sounded a CAUTION aural alert and displayed the ECAM 'ENG 1 COMPRESSOR VANE'. The FO was the flying pilot and I was pilot monitoring; with my hands on the thrust levers per the FM. I announced 'rejecting; I have the aircraft' and initiated the low speed RTO (Rejected Takeoff) procedure. The FO verified the auto brakes MAX had engaged; the spoilers were deployed; and that the Reversers were extended; then told the tower we were aborting our takeoff; and then finally issued a PA to the passengers to remain seated. I directed the FO to disarm the auto brakes and used manual braking to slow the aircraft. After determining there was no fire or control issue; once at a slow speed I elected to taxi off the runway.Once safely stopped on a taxiway; the FO and I ran the RTO QRC from the card. I spoke with the lead FA and determined there was no need to conduct an evacuation; so we chose to continue dealing with the non-normal event. I directed the FO to run the ECAM. The ECAM instruction directed us to shut down the #1 engine; which we did without any issues. Once the ECAM was resolved and the screens returned to normal; we looked up the non-normal procedures for both the RTO as well as the Engine Compressor Vane failure in the FM for any further steps; and to review notes; warnings; and cautions. Once all FM procedures were complied with; we called station ops and MX (Maintenance); to determine the best way forward. The loss of the #1 engine meant we did not have normal system pressure on the Green hydraulic system. While we could have taxied using pressure from the PTU (Power Transfer Unit); I determined the safest course of action was to shut down and allow ground operations to tow us to the gate. We coordinated with local OPS and MX for a tow team. Following the FM 'Tow In' procedures; we were towed back to the gate. At the gate we met MX; debriefed; and turned the plane over to them. The passengers were turned over to the gate agent for deplaning and rebooking.

We initiated the low speed RTO (Rejected Takeoff) and taxied off the runway; after telling tower of the rejection. We were instructed to taxi on 1 taxiway short of 2. We ran the QRC; the ECAM; then ran the non-normal check list in the FM which guided us to turn the number one engine off. With the number one engine off we had no nose wheel steering. We coordinated with local OPS and MX (Maintenance) for a tow team. We were towed back to the terminal where we meet MX; debriefed them and turn the plane over to them.
