2025-12 · NASA ASRS report 2312741
Air carrier Captain reported after push back on to the taxi lane they observed an arriving aircraft taxiing in front of them to the gate approach too close to ramp personnel and their tug.
Our aircraft was on the 1 taxi line parking brake set and was being disconnected by our ramp crew. FO heard ramp clear [AIRCRAFT] in from 2 directly in front of us to gate XX. After watching [AIRCRAFT] start to roll forward I asked them over ramp frequency if they saw the ramp crew to their left and they may not have enough room. [AIRCRAFT] responded they were cleared in by ramp and had room; also stating they were doing us a courtesy. I responded that I was concerned for the safety of my ramp crew in proximity to their aircraft . [AIRCRAFT] continued off of the painted taxi line so that their wingtip would not be directly over the tug. [AIRCRAFT]'s wingtip was 3-5 feet from being directly over our tug and our crew didn't feel comfortable backing up. The ramp crew was confused as to why an aircraft was taxiing so close. [AIRCRAFT] eventually stopped when they put the left wing walker near the inlet of their #1 running engine. After we were disconnected the ramp crew had to maneuver onto 1 taxiway to get out of [AIRCRAFT]'s way as [AIRCRAFT] proceeded forward at a high rate of speed to gate XX. Upon asking for the [AIRCRAFT]'s flight number from ramp; someone transmitted ' come on you don't have to be like that' hoping to discourage this report.
