Synopsis

Air carrier Technician reported that while troubleshooting a left main landing gear issue on a B767; they were required to press the override button to move the gear selector handle past the off position.

Narrative

While doing troubleshooting on Aircraft X for an issue with LH MLG slow to retract; I was tasked with moving the gear selector handle for gear swings in the hangar. Upon moving the handle to the UP position; I was required to press the override button to get the selector handle to move past the OFF position. At the time of the gear swings; I continued with pressing the override for gear swings and was under the impression it would be addressed at the time of the deferral clearing post gear maintenance
