Synopsis

FLC OF ACR MLG ACFT STRUCK WINGTIP OF ACFT DURING LNDG DUE TO WAKE TURB CAUSED BY HVY ACFT TFC ON A PARALLEL RWY AND THE WIND DIRECTION DRIFTING THE WAKE OVER THE OTHER PARALLEL RWY.

Narrative

AS THE FO AND I WERE GETTING OFF THE ACFT IN CVG; MAINT MET US. HE TOLD US THAT WE HAD BROKEN A LNDG LIGHT. HE STATED THAT HE WOULD REPLACE IT AND NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT; NO PROB. THE FO AND I PROCEEDED TO MEET OUR NEXT FLT. IF THE DAMAGE DONE TO THE L LNDG LIGHT OCCURRED DURING THE 2 LEGS THAT WE FLEW THE ACFT; THEN IT MUST HAVE HAPPENED DURING THE LNDG AT EWR. THE ACFT WAS ESTABLISHED ON LOC AND GS FOR APCH TO 4R. AT APPROX 5 MI; EWR TWR ADVISED OF A HVY DEP ON 4L. FO NOTED A DEP ON 4L AT OUR 2 TO 3 MI FINAL TO 4R. LNDG CLRNC HAD ALREADY BEEN GIVEN TO US ON 4R. AT APPROX 50 FT AGL; THE ACFT STARTED TO DRIFT TO THE R. A CORRECTION WAS INITIATED TO BRING THE ACFT BACK TO CTRLINE. DURING THE FLARE; THE L WING DROPPED SUDDENLY. INSTINCTIVELY; I PUT IN A LARGE AMOUNT OF AILERON TO LEVEL THE WINGS AND ESTABLISH A LNDG ATTITUDE. REST OF LNDG ROLL WAS NORMAL. FO ADVISED EWR TWR OF OUR WAKE TURB DURING LNDG. AFTER DEPARTING THE RWY; WE BOTH DISCUSSED THE WAKE TURB THAT WE HAD JUST ENCOUNTERED. DURING TAXI IN; NOSE STRUT KEPT BOTTOMING OUT AND ONCE AT THE GATE; WE WERE TOLD THAT SEAT 13A WOULD NOT STAY UP. BOTH WERE WRITTEN UP AND RELATED TO THE MECH WHO MET THE FLT. HE MADE NO MENTION OF FINDING ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE ACFT DURING HIS EXTERIOR WALK- AROUND. THE FLT TO CVG PROCEEDED NORMALLY.
