Part 107 UAS pilot reported learning they had completed several flights while out of certificate currency.
I have a part 107 certification but am not a professional drone pilot. I am a real estate agent and occasionally use my drone to shoot pictures and video of projects where I am working or where my clients are working. One of my developer clients asked me to shoot photos and video of two of their sites near ZZZ. I applied for LAANC authorization to run the drone in the class C airspace at the sites. I received approval for one site but not the other. I applied again for the second site and was rejected again. I went to the site that was approved and took photos/video there. I decided to try again to get approval for the second site. I checked my records and I had applied for and received approval for that site earlier this year; and I had taken photos/videos at that time with the approval. I was preparing to enter a third request for approval for the second site; when I realized that the third party authorization site I was using didn't have my pilot certificate information. I thought that might have been the reason I kept getting rejected; so I dug up that information to enter into the system. It was then that I realized that my certification had expired last year; so both my flights this year; though approved by LAANC; were for commercial use but I did not have a current commercial certificate. I promptly completed the updated course and renewed my part 107 certificate. I have not received any actual compensation for any of my drone photography this year; but I have taken photos and videos of real estate projects for use in the course of my business. To prevent recurrence; I will make a note in my calendar of the expiration of my certificate so that I can ensure I stay current in the future.
