A C210 pilot reported when they landed at a non-towered airport which was NOTAMed closed they lost control of the aircraft resulting in a runway excursion.
I landed on ZZZ runway XX to discover it covered in a layer of glaze ice with braking action nil.Halfway down the runway at perhaps 35 knots I contemplated pushing the throttle forward to take off again but remembered many accident reports in which such an action led to fatalities so decided to stay on the ground. With 1000 feet left I pulled the mixture to kill the engine and the prop stopped. As the end of the runway approached I was still going 15 knots and steered toward the right side of the runway for what looked like an area clear of large snow banks and lights. The aircraft skidded sideways slightly but then went straight and into a low snow bank at about 8 to 10 knots. There was no damage to the aircraft.I checked the airport info on my iPad and saw then that the airport was NOTAM'd closed. With the help of friends I pulled the airplane back out of the snow bank; turned it around at the end of the runway by hand; and departed to return to my nearby home field; which seemed the safest option given the fact that the entire airport surface including all ramps and taxiways was ice-covered with little to no braking action. My helpers and I were only able to stand and walk with microspikes on our boots. The takeoff and flight back were unremarkable.I now have a flight plan on my iPad that includes all local fields that I frequent and will use it to get a briefing so that current aerodrome NOTAMs are available on my iPad prior to takeoff. In retrospect my frequent visits to local airfields bred an attitude of complacency that led to this unfortunate event. Fortunately the only injury was to my pride.
