EMB-170 crew reported a loss of Hydraulic System 1 during cruise flight. Crew diverted and landed safely.
We were at FL340 enroute from ZZZ1- ZZZ2. Just southeast of ZZZ3; still over 300 miles from our destination of ZZZ1; we had a HYD 1 LO QTY message. Upon checking the HYD status page; we saw system 1 quantity was at 12% and falling rapidly. Within about 20 seconds it was at 0. We then got the associated HYD 1 LO PRESS EICAS message. We ran the QRH; which led us to the LOSS of HYDRAULIC SYSTEM 1 procedure. One of the items in the QRH was to disconnect the Autopilot. As such we opted to descend out of RVSM airspace; to FL 280. We attempted to reach dispatch and maintenance through ARINC as I thought it would be easier to discuss the issue there vs sending messages. We could not establish two way communication; so we sent Dispatch an ACARs and they conferred with maintenance. Dispatch recommended ZZZ; about 100 miles south; which had good enough weather to get in without issue. I also considered that the best option due to it being a maintenance base; and I did not want to continue over 300 miles with a lost hydraulic system. I discussed the situation with the FO (First Officer) and he agreed ZZZ was the best option.We advised ATC that we would like to divert to ZZZ due to hydraulic failure; and gave the flight attendants their brief. I opted to not use the brace command; but we did request priority handling with ATC and asked for emergency equipment available just to err on the side of caution. I also briefed the passengers as thoroughly as I could on the situation. ZZZ gave us our choice of runway and we chose XXR; a long runway. Once we had set up for the ILS XXR approach I opted to take the flight controls for the landing; and the FO ran the Loss of Hydraulic System One descent and landing checklists. Despite a flaps full landing per the QRH; as expected the landing distance was longer than usual with the reduced braking and only one thrust reverser available. We cleared the runway at Taxiway 1. As we cleared the runway I checked the brake temperatures and everything appeared normal. We reported to the emergency services that we did not need assistance. Per their SOPs they followed us to the gate. We parked at XX and maintenance was already there; and I gave them a specific account of what happened. We then made a plane swap and finished the continuation flight to ZZZ1.
We were cruising at FL340 ZZZ1-ZZZ2 I was the PF. 300 miles from ZZZ1 I noticed an advisory message HYD 1 LO QTY message. I alerted the Captain and switched to the Hydraulic page on MFD (Multi-function Flight Display). We saw system 1 was at 12% and decreasing rapidly. Shortly after it was at 0%. We received HYD 1 LO PRESS EICAS message. We ran the QRH LOSS OF HYDRAULIC SYSTEM 1 procedure. One note in the QRH was to disconnect the Autopilot. I disconnected Autopilot and we requested to descend to FL280 to get out of RVSM airspace. Captain (PM) continued completing QRH and notified Dispatch. We discussed our options and came up with a plan that ZZZ would be our best option for diversion. It was 100 miles from our position with good weather; and it was a maintenance base. Captain advised the flight crew and ATC of our situation. We requested priority handling and requested fire personnel to be on standby for precautionary measures. We were given options for runways and we chose XXR; a long runway. We got everything set up for ILS XXR. Captain took over flight controls to perform the landing; and I became PM. Once established I ran Loss of Hydraulic One descent and landing checklist. We landed without incident and cleared the runway at 1. Fire personnel followed us to our gate XX. Maintenance was already at the gate awaiting our arrival. We swap planes and continued our trip to ZZZ1
