Air carrier flight crew reported winglet made contact with ground vehicle during push back. Flight was towed back to the gate.
Narrative
Aircraft nose is xxxx and Gate XX. Flt ABCD. During pushback approximately 80 feet tug stopped pushback. I asked what was the problem and he stated that a vehicle was in the way. After a min he came back and said we may have hit the vehicle with the left wing. We did not nor any crew felt any collision. Eventually we were towed back into gate. The left wing winglet did contact vehicle. We did not see anything.
Second reporter narrative
During pushback from Gate XX; ground crew stopped pushback about 80 feet from the gate. Captain asked for reason and ground crew stated it was for a vehicle. After a short pause; ground crew said that the wing may have struck a vehicle. Pushback was terminated and we were pulled back into the gate after ramp and maintenance personnel did a preliminary assessment. Ramp conditions were very snowy and icy; and may have been a contributing factor. Only the yellow line and and redlines had been cleared before the aircraft and pulled into the gate.
