A319 First Officer reported on departure experiencing engine vibration resulting in the flight crew returning to the departure airport where they landed safely.

Narrative

Departing ZZZ Runway XX; the takeoff roll; rotation and liftoff were normal. The instant the gear lever was raised; a loud; constant noise occurred. We couldn't determine the source or the location of the noise; and we had to raise our voices to hear each other. We requested a level off at 3;000 feet MSL. As the thrust reduced; the noise reduced proportionately; leading us to suspect an engine malfunction; however both sets of engine instruments indicated normal. The noise persisted; so we requested priority handling and returned to ZZZ. Visual approach and landing to XYR was uneventful. We cleared the runway and the emergency crew noticed a minute amount of smoke near the #1 engine intake. We shut down both engines for inspection but the crew noted no damage. We were towed to the gate; where maintenance personnel found damage to the #2 engine fan blades along with blood and feathers.
