B737 flight crew reported a severe turbulence encounter on descent. ATC and maintenance were notified.
Narrative
While descending on the ZZZZZ STAR into ZZZ we encountered severe turbulence between 16;000 and 13;000 feet. Aircraft speed and roll were uncontrollable. No injuries or observed damage. ATC advised and Maintenance write up accomplished. No sigmets were present for Severe Turbulence but Eddy Dissipation Rate (EDR) was showing a few severe reports on the arrival.
Second reporter narrative
Severe Turbulence encountered from 16-13k descending via the ZZZZZ Arrival. Specifically between ZZZZZ1 and ZZZZZ2. Aircraft briefly uncontrollable. Captain took controls executed upset recovery and continued descent below 13k where turbulence subsided. ATC was notified; and were given vectors and altitude off of the arrival. No damage or injuries reported.
