RECEIVED PRE-DEPARTURE CLRNC; MISINTERPRETED CLRNC. TRACON VECTORED TO CORRECT.
WE RECEIVED OUR FLT CLRNC VIA AN ONBOARD COMPUTER WITH A PRINTER. I MISREAD THE DEP INSTRUCTIONS TO READ RADAR VECTORS TO JOIN J-90 OUTBOUND FROM SEA. THE CAPT ASKED ME IF WE WERE TO COMPLY WITH THE MOUNTAIN 2. I SAID NO; WE WERE BEING VECTORED TO JOIN J-90. HE FAILED TO LOOK AT THE CLRNC HIMSELF; THUS RELYING ON MY INTERP OF THE CLRNC. DURING CLBOUT FROM KSEA; RWY 34L AT APPROX 13-14 MI; THE DEP CTLR CALLED AND ASKED IF WE WERE GIVEN THE MOUNTAIN 2 WITH OUR DEP. I RESPONDED NO; HOWEVER; UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION OF THE CLRNC; I REALIZED I HAD MISREAD THE CLRNC. WE SHOULD HAVE BEGUN A TURN AT SEA 8 DME. THE CTLR ISSUED A TURN TO US AFTER ASKING US ABOUT THE DEP. THE SIT OCCURRED BECAUSE I MISREAD THE CLRNC; THE CAPT FAILED TO LOOK AT THE CLRNC AND THE CTLR NEVER CALLED US UNTIL WE WERE 5-6 MI PAST THE INITIAL TURN. THERE WERE NEVER ANY CONFLICTS OR EVASIVE ACTIONS TAKEN. I HAVE RELEARNED THE IMPORTANCE OF CHKING AND RECHKING A CLRNC AND THE NEED FOR BOTH PLTS TO BACK EACH OTHER UP. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 233220: WE RECEIVED OUR ATC CLRNC VIA ACARS AND IT IS PRINTED OUT ON A STRIP THE FO PLACES BELOW THE XPONDER ON HIS SIDE OF THE CTR PEDESTAL. I'VE ALSO CHANGED MY HABITS AND NOW PLACE THE STRIP ON MY SIDE OF THE CONSOLE.
