Synopsis
Air carrier flight crew reported the inaccurate taxi diagram and lack of markings and mapping of additional pavement that was caused by the ongoing construction at the airport led to the flight crew getting stuck and needing a tug for re-positioning after making the wrong turn.
Narrative
ZZZ - AGS. Upon landing in AGS on Runway 17 at approximately XA:00; we slowed to make our taxi off at the end of the runway onto Taxiway Foxtrot. It was difficult to identify a taxiway lead-off line as it was not painted entirely onto the runway. Additionally; because of airport construction there appeared to be an extra piece of pavement prior to Taxiway Foxtrot that was not accurately depicted on the airport diagram. Due to this misinterpretation and dark conditions; my Captain preemptively made the turn onto the additional concrete before the taxiway. We both realized that we had initiated the turn too early and immediately came to a stop. We explained to Tower that we had made the turn too early but were still on the runway. In communication with Tower; we attempted to make a 180-degree turn to get ourselves back into a position to enter the taxiway. However; the taxiway lights were positioned into the runway and prevented us from making a turn. My Captain then attempted to make a turn in the other direction. However; I had to ask him to stop as one of the runway marking signs was in the way of our expected path. We decided as a crew that it was best to come to a stop and have a tug come out to push us back. Tower helped us to coordinate with Operations to have a tug enter the runway and assist in pushing us back. Communication was made with the passengers and flight attendants before the tug pushed us back about 20 feet. This was enough for us to then disconnect and move under our own power. We then back-taxied down the runway and finally to our gate.Cause: I think both my Captain and I could have done a better job of confidently identifying the taxiway before making the turn using the taxiway lights as cues. Overall; I believe the cause of the mistake was the lack of markings and mapping of this additional pavement caused by the ongoing construction. Once we had initiated this turn; there was no way of straightening back out to correct the mistake as the taxiway lights protruded far into the runway and the runway marking sign impeded our path in the other direction.
Second reporter narrative
Upon landing on Runway 17; we rolled to the end to get off runway. As we made the turn we realized we were not on taxiway; but rather some piece of pavement next to taxiway. We stopped the aircraft and told Tower our situation. They called Operations out with a tug. Once pushed back we taxied to gate.Cause: The taxiway diagram was not correct. Multiple construction vehicles still working.
