Synopsis

A CPR LTT HAD A HDG DEV IN THE MIDST OF AN AIR CONDITIONING FAILURE. THE HDG DEV MAY HAVE CAUSED LTSS.

Narrative

ON MAR/THU/93 MYSELF AND THE CAPT TOOK OFF FROM TOLEDO EXPRESS ARPT AT XA15 PM IN AN LTT. OUR TRIP WAS TO JACKSONVILLE; FL. DURING THE CLB TO FL310 WE HAD AN AIR CONDITIONING SYS OVERHEAT LIGHT COME ON AT AROUND FL180. AT THIS TIME WE WERE PROCEEDING DIRECT TO APE VOR. I WENT TO THE CHKLIST AND WE RAN THE CONDITIONING OVERHEAT CHKS. WE TURNED OFF THE HP BLEED SWITCH AND IN ABOUT 30-40 SECONDS THE CONDITIONING OVERHEAT LIGHT WENT OUT. WE ARE NOW LEVEL FL310. ZID GAVE US A 15 DEG TURN L. THE CAPT WAS BUSY CHKING THE MEL TO SEE IF WE COULD CONTINUE ON TO JAX OR RETURN TO TOLEDO. WE DISCUSSED WHAT THE MEL TOLD US AND I WAS MAKING SURE WE COVERED EVERYTHING ON THE CHKLIST. WHILE WE WERE DOING ALL THIS WE THOUGHT WE WERE OFF COURSE AND TURNED BACK TO THE R DIRECT APE VOR. IN ABOUT 30 SECONDS ZID GAVE US A TURN BACK TO THE L. WE HAD ACTUALLY BEEN ON A HDG; NOT OFF COURSE. CTR CLRED US TO FL330 AND DIRECT JAX. THE NEXT CTLR TOLD US TO CALL QUALITY ASSURANCE CTL. THEN WE KNEW WE MADE A BAD MISTAKE. I FAILED TO SEE THE CAPT TURNING BACK TO THE R BECAUSE I WAS BUSY WITH THE CHKLIST. WE WERE ONLY OFF HDG 30 SECONDS; SO THE CTLR HAD US TIGHT. THE OTHER PLANE WAS AN ACR. WE CAME INSIDE THE 5 MI LIMIT. CTR SAID 4 MI.
