FLC OF WDB ACR ACFT INADVERTENTLY DEVIATED FROM THE FILED TRACK DUE TO THE COMPANY FLT PLAN COMPUTER DATA NOT CONTAINING THE LATEST RTE REVISION.

Narrative

I WAS SERVING AS FO ON AIRLINES FLT FROM FRA TO ORD. WHEN ABOUT 10 NM E OF YOW VOR MONTREAL CTR ON 134.4 ASKED WHAT OUR CLRNC WAS. I TOLD HIM WE HAD BEEN GIVEN A DOMESTIC CLRNC WHILE OVER LOACH OF NA234 TO CHICAGO. WE INTERPRETED THAT CLRNC AS NA234 YBC THEN DIRECT URX DIRECT YOW J546 ECK J94 FNT PULLMAN ARR ORD SINCE THAT WAS HOW THE COMPANY HAD FILED OUR FLT PLAN. THE CTLR INFORMED US WE SHOULD BE ON THE NON-COMMON PORTION OF NA234 WHICH HE SAID WAS DIRECT YMS DIRECT ECK. HE CLRED US VIA THAT ROUTING THEN GAVE US A FREQ CHANGE TO TORONTO CTR ON 124.67 WHO IMMEDIATELY CLRED US DIRECT TO ECK. WE HAD BEEN IN CONTINUOUS RADAR CONTACT SINCE COMING ASHORE AT FOXXE. UPON REACHING ORD AND PASSING DETAILS OF THIS INCIDENT TO A MEMBER OF OUR UNION SAFETY COMMITTEE; IT TURNS OUT THAT THE COMPANY HAD THE INCORRECT ROUTING ON OUR FLT PLAN. ON APR/XX/93 COMPANY HAD ISSUED A MAJOR REVISION TO THE COMMON AND NON-COMMON PORTIONS OF THE NORTH AMERICAN RTES WHICH OUR COMPANY FLT PLANNING COMPUTERS HAD FAILED TO PICK UP APPARENTLY. OUR MISTAKE WAS A FAILURE TO CHK THE NON-COMMON PORTION OF NA234 AS PRINTED ON OUR FLT PLAN AGAINST PAGE UNDER THE ENRTE TAB OF OUR MANUAL. EMPHASIS DURING INTL TRAINING HAD BEEN PUT ON CHKING THE NORTH AMERICAN RTE CLRNCS BUT LITTLE OR NO EMPHASIS WAS EVER PUT ON CHKING THE NON-COMMON PORTIONS. THE RTE ON WHICH WE WERE FILED AND WERE FLYING WAS LOACH DIRECT FOXXE NA234 YBC DIRECT URX DIRECT YOW J546 ECK J94 FNT PULLMAN ARR ORD. THE RTE WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN FLYING WAS NA234 YBC DIRECT URX DIRECT POLTY DIRECT YMS DIRECT ECK J94 FNT PULLMAN ARR ORD ACCORDING TO BOTH THE CTLR AND PAGE OF OUR MANUAL. FLT WAS ABOUT 25 MI OFF COURSE AT YOW WHEN MONTREAL CTR FIRST QUESTIONED US.
