Synopsis

MLG HAS AN NMAC WITH A SAIL PLANE.

Narrative

WE WERE TRYING TO RESOLVE A SPLIT THROTTLE/EPR PROB ON #2 ENG THAT OCCURRED ON TKOF ROLL. WE HAD A WING BODY OUT PLACARD MEL THAT NECESSITATED #1 ENG BLEED AND #1 PACK OFF. THE CAPT WAS FLYING AND TALKING TO MAINT CTL. I WAS TALKING TO ATC AND RELAYING INSTRUCTIONS TO HIM; SETTING ALT ALERTERS; ETC. ATC CALLED UNKNOWN TARGET 11 O'CLOCK; ALT UNKNOWN. A GLIDER WENT BY OFF OUR L WING AT 1/2 MI. I LOOKED THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD AND SAW ANOTHER ONE AT 12 O'CLOCK. I ALERTED CAPT AND PUSHED ON THE YOKE AT THE SAME TIME. ATC DIDN'T PAINT THIS GUY. ATC SAID THERE WAS GLIDER ACTIVITY AT THIS OUTLYING ARPT; BUT THEY WERE USUALLY NOTIFIED WHEN GLIDER ACTIVITY WAS ACTUALLY TAKING PLACE. THEY HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. EVEN THOUGH WE WEREN'T ON THE ARR; OUR VECTOR CLOSELY PARALLELED IT. THIS ARR PROC SHOULD BE CHANGED OR THESE GLIDERS NEED XPONDERS OR TALK TO ATC. THIS IS BASICALLY AN UNSAFE SIT THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YRS WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. WE PROCEEDED TO THE ARPT WITHOUT ANY FURTHER PROBS. THE SPLIT EPR PROB WAS CAUSED BY A SMALL PLASTIC BAG STUCK EXACTLY ON THE P2 T2 PROBE. WE HAD NOTICED SMALL DEBRIS WHIPPED UP BY THE WIND BUT NEVER ASSOCIATED THIS FOD WITH THE PROB. IF IT HAD BEEN SNOWING OR FREEZING WE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE FIGURED IT OUT; BUT NOT AT 90 DEGS F OUTSIDE.

Frequently asked questions

How do I search flights by aircraft type on FlightFinder?

Pick an aircraft model — Boeing 737, Airbus A320, A380, Boeing 787 Dreamliner and more — enter your origin airport, and FlightFinder shows every route that plane flies from there with live fares.

Which aircraft types can I filter by?

We support Boeing 737/747/757/767/777/787, the full Airbus A220/A319/A320/A321/A330/A340/A350/A380 family, Embraer E170/E175/E190/E195, Bombardier CRJ and Dash 8, and the ATR 42/72 turboprops.
