FLC OF ACR MLG ACFT TAXIED TO WRONG RWY FOR DEP AT CLT DUE TO MISUNDERSTANDING OF PREDEP CLRNC REVISION PRESENTATION.
PREFLT FOR FLT CLT DIRECT GNV. AS WE WERE INBOUND TO CLT ON PREVIOUS LEG; WE RECEIVED AN ACARS MESSAGE FROM DISPATCHER ADVISING US THAT HE WAS REROUTING US DUE TO WX N THE CLT DIRECT GNV SEGMENT. IN CLT; CAPT WENT IN TO GET THE NEW RELEASE. AT APPROX 20 MINS PRIOR TO DEP; WITH NEW RELEASE IN HAND; I SENT A REQUEST FOR PRE-DEP CLRNC THROUGH ACARS. WHEN THE PRE-DEP CLRNC CAME UP ON SCREEN; IT LOOKED LIKE THIS ON PAGE 1: -- GREAT CAE IRQ -- CLT HARAY SPA J53 IRQ J85 AMG V157 TAY GNV. NOTE THAT THE SECTION ABOVE THE REGULAR CLRNC LINE ANNOTATED BY HYPHENS WAS AN INCOMPLETE CLRNC; FOLLOWED BY A COMPLETE CLRNC AS WE HAD REFILED. ON PAGE 2 WAS A NOTATION; GREAT TRANSITION; WHICH I UNFORTUNATELY MISSED. HAD I SEEN IT; I WOULD HAVE CALLED CLRNC TO ASK WHY IT STATED GREAT TRANSITION WHEN CLRNC WAS FOR HARAY TRANSITION. THAT WOULD HAVE STRAIGHTENED OUT THE MISCONCEPTION. AS WE CALLED RAMP CTL FOR TAXI; THEY ASSIGNED US RWY 18L (THE STANDARD RWY FOR GREAT TRANSITION). I TOLD HIM WE WERE RERTED OVER HARAY SO HE SENT US TO RWY 18R. AS WE CONTACTED GND CTL; HE TOLD US TO USE THE E10 INTXN FOR RWY 18R. I ASKED IF THAT WAS A GOOD DEAL (GET AHEAD OF OTHER ACFT) OR A BAD DEAL (DELAY). HE SAID SINCE WE WERE GOING DUE S HE WOULD HAVE TO COORDINATE OUR DEP WITH OTHER SIDE. WE TOLD HIM WE WERE CLRED OVER HARAY. HE CHKED AND CAME BACK AND RECLRED US CLT HORNET 3 DEP GREAT CAE IRQ AS FILED. CAPT GOT INTO DISCUSSION WITH TWR. TWR SAID WE WERE ON RWY 18R BUT THAT WE WERE GONG OUT GREAT TRANSITION. CAPT SAID WE WERE ORIGINALLY CLRED HARAY TRANSITION. CAPT SAID WE WERE ORIGINALLY CLRED HARAY TRANSITION. TWR SAID; THAT'S WHAT YOU FILED BUT NOT WHAT YOU GOT N THE PRE-DEP CLRNC. AS WE REVIEWED THE ACARS PRE-DEP CLRNC MESSAGE PAGE; IT LOOKED LIKE A HARAY TRANSITION. ON PAGE 2; I NOTED THE GREAT TRANSITION AND IN CONCERT WITH WHAT THE TWR SAID; I DEDUCED WHAT THE PAGE 1 CHANGES ACTUALLY SAID. I HAVE RECEIVED NO SPECIFIC TRAINING IN HOW TO READ CLRNC CHANGES IN THE ACARS PRE-DEP CLRNC MESSAGE. THE CAPT IS A LINE CHK AIRMAN AND ALSO DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE HYPHENATED PARTIAL CLRNC -- GREAT CAE IRQ -- MEANT. MY DEDUCTION IS THAT THE HYPHEN INDICATED A PARTIAL CLRNC CHANGE. I WISH THERE WAS BETTER TRAINING; PERHAPS IN RECURRENT; AS TO HOW ROUTING CHANGES ARE INDICATED IN THE PRE-DEP CLRNC MESSAGE.
