FLC XING RAMP AFTER SIGN OFF. ACCUSED OF SECURITY VIOLATION WHEN THEY DID NOT QUESTION A PERSON WHO WALKED BY.

Narrative

A CAPT AND MYSELF HAD JUST SIGNED OFF DUTY AND WERE WALKING ACROSS A RAMP CONSTRUCTION AREA ENRTE TO THE EMPLOYEE SHUTTLE BUS. WE WERE ENGAGED IN A CASUAL CONVERSATION AND REALLY NOT PAYING ATTN TO OUR SURROUNDINGS. WE MET A GENTLEMAN WALKING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND SAID HELLO IN PASSING. ABOUT 30 SECONDS LATER; A COUPLE OF OTHER GENTLEMEN CAME OUT OF THE DARK AND BEGAN ASKING US QUESTIONS ABOUT RAMP/ARPT SECURITY. AFTER I INQUIRED AS TO THE REASON FOR THE QUESTIONS; ONE OF THE GENTLEMEN IDENTED HIMSELF AS AN FAA SECURITY INSPECTOR AND INFORMED US WE HAD JUST ALLOWED AN INDIVIDUAL TO PASS THAT WAS NOT WEARING A RAMP CLRNC IDENT. HE THEN STARTED TO ASK ME QUESTIONS CONCERNING RAMP SECURITY PROCS. FROM THE BEGINNING OF THIS ENCOUNTER I BELIEVE A 'PERSONALITY CONFLICT' DEVELOPED. IN SHORT; HE THOUGHT I WAS A JERK; AND I THOUGHT HE WAS A JERK. ASIDE FROM OUR INDIVIDUAL OPINIONS OF EACH OTHER; I BELIEVE I ANSWERED HIS QUESTIONS CORRECTLY AND COMPLETELY. HE TOOK BOTH OUR NAMES AND WE PARTED. THE NEXT DAY; MY CHIEF PLT/DIRECTOR OF OPS INFORMED ME THAT THE COMPANY WAS BEING FINED $25000 FOR A SECURITY VIOLATION; AND THAT HE (SECURITY INSPECTOR) THOUGHT MY ATTITUDE LEFT SOMETHING TO BE DESIRED. I ADMIT I WAS WRONG. I HAD SIGNED OFF DUTY; I WAS TIRED AND LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING HOME. I HAD TURNED MYSELF OFF FOR THE DAY. THIS WHOLE THING COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF I WOULD HAVE REMAINED ALERT AND AWARE OF EVERYTHING AROUND ME UNTIL I WAS ON THE SHUTTLE BUS. I WASN'T DOING MY JOB AS BEING PART OF THE SECURITY SYS FOR THE ARPT WHEN I LEFT THE FLT OPS OFFICE. THIS HAS TAUGHT ME THAT I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR MORE THAN GETTING PEOPLE SAFELY FROM POINT A TO B. I DON'T PLAN TO LET MY GUARD DOWN AGAIN.
