Synopsis

AN ACR LGT HELD SHORT OF A RWY; BUT NOT AT THE END WHERE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE.

Narrative

FLT WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAXI TO RWY 3R (STANDING TAXI). AFTER PASSING W-3; WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO 'TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD.' I LOOKED UP AND SAW THE 'HOLD SHORT' LIGHTS AND SIGNS OF RWY 27L/9R; CHKED MY MAP; DID NOT SEE RWY 27L DEPICTED AND ASSUMED WE WERE AT THE APCH END OF RWY 3R. I CALLED FOR THE CHKLIST WHILE HOLDING SHORT OF THE HOLD SHORT POINT FOR RWY 3R. AS WE COMPLETED THE CHKLIST; A CPR MLG PASSED OUR POS ON ITS TKOF ROLL. WE CONFIRMED OUR CLRNC WITH THE TWR AND BACK TAXIED TO RWY 3R APCH END. BEFORE DEPARTING; WE BRIEFED THE TWR AS TO THE PROB (NO CHART DEPICTION) AND OFFERED ADVICE TO REMEDY THE SIT. PROB: NO CHART DEPICTION OF RWY 27L/9R ON CURRENT COMMERCIAL CHART. NO SIGNAGE AT TXWY W-2. RECOMMENDATIONS: ISSUE PROPER CHARTS IN TIMELY FASHION. BOTH PLTS 'FOLLOW' TAXI PROGRESS AT ALL TIMES. RUN CHKLIST WITH BRAKES SET DURING LOW VISIBILITY TAXI. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 258577: TAXI CLRNC 06; FOX; WHISKEY; TO 3R. I LOOKED OUTSIDE AND SAW 2 RWY HOLD SHORT SIGNS. THEY READ 3R/21L AND 9R/27L. NOT REMEMBERING A 9R/27L ON THE CHART; I QUICKLY CONSULTED THE ARPT DIAGRAM. THIS MYSTERY RWY WAS NOT DEPICTED. CONFUSED; I LOOKED OUTSIDE FOR A W2 OR W1 SIGN. NONE WERE FOUND. THEREFORE; THE CAPT AND MYSELF BELIEVED WE WERE AT THE APCH END OF THE RWY. THE FOLLOWING EVENTS WOULD PREVENT ANY RECURRENCE. DTW TWR HAVE GND RADAR. CONSTRUCTION OF MAJOR RWY AND TXWY PROJECTS BE NOTED ON CHARTS APPROPRIATELY BEFORE THEY ARE STARTED.
