Synopsis

CAPT OF AN MDT ACR ACFT OPERATED THE ACFT WHEN THE FLT LOG SHOWED UNDEFERRED MAINT ITEM.

Narrative

OUR COMPANY RECENTLY CHANGED THE ACFT LOGBOOK AND THIS INADVERTENTLY RESULTED IN A CHANGE IN PROC. THE CAPT IS NOW NOT ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOGBOOK; IT IS NOW HIS DUTY TO COMPLETE IT AS WELL. IN THE PAST IT WAS THE FO'S DUTY TO COMPLETE. MANY CREWS ARE HAVING A HARD TIME ADJUSTING TO THIS NEW PROC AND DUTIES. A WRITE UP WAS LEFT OPEN FOR SEVERAL FLTS; IT CONCERNED A HYD ACCUMULATOR THAT WAS LOW ON ITS PRECHARGE. MAINT CLAIMS THE PROB HAS BEEN CORRECTED JUST NOT ENTERED IN THE LOGBOOK. THE PREVIOUS CREW SUPPOSEDLY HAD WRITTEN UP THE DISCREPANCY. HOWEVER; THEY HAD MADE THEIR LOG ENTRY IN THE WRONG PLACE. I CORRECTED THIS ERROR AND NOTICED NO DISCREPANCY. I PROCEEDED TO FLY THE ACFT 6 MORE LEGS. THIS WRITE UP MYSTERIOUSLY APPEARED FOR THE NEXT CREW AFTER ME. A MECH WAS CALLED AND THE CORRECTIVE ACTION SECTION OF THE LOGBOOK WAS FILLED IN. SHOW A DATE A DAY LATER THAN THE ACTUAL WRITE UP AND 8 LEGS COMPLETED FROM THE TIME IT WAS WRITTEN UP AND THE TIME IT WAS CLRED. I CANNOT SEE HOW I COULD HAVE MISSED THIS OPEN WRITE UP FOR 6 LEGS. IN ANY CASE THE LOGBOOK HAS CAUSED MUCH CONFUSION SINCE THE CHANGE. WE NO LONGER NEED IT FOR PAY PURPOSES OR ACFT TIME RECORD KEEPING. CONSEQUENTLY; FEW CREWS TAKE THE LOGBOOK SERIOUSLY EXCEPT FOR THE DMI'S.
