Synopsis

PLT OF AN SMT TWIN ENG ATX ACFT OVERSHOT THE MISSED APCH HOLD ALT DURING A MISSED APCH.

Narrative

I DID THE VOR APCH AT MONTEVIDEO; MN (VOR RWY 14). AWOS RPTED 600 FT AND 1 MI VISIBILITY AT THE START OF THE APCH. AT THE TIME THE OWNER OF THE CHAPTER COMPANY; A 25000 HR PLT; WAS IN THE R SEAT; ALTHOUGH NOT IN THE OFFICIAL CAPACITY OF COPLT AS WE HAVE NO COPLT PROGRAM IN OUR OPS SPECS. AFTER WE CAME TO THE VOR AND HAD LITTLE GND CONTACT I MISSED THE APCH AND CALLED THE MISS TO ZMP. I STARTED THE CLB TO 2000 FT THEN TURNED R TO THE VOR. I TOLD THE OTHER PLT TO 'GIVE ME THE MISSED APCH' AND TURNED BACK TO FLYING THE ACFT AND TRYING TO ESTABLISH CONTACT WITH ZMP. AS THE OTHER PLT SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE MISSED APCH PROC. AFTER LOOKING AT IT; I ASSUMED WE WERE DOING ALRIGHT AND THEN I BEGAN TO WORRY ABOUT LOST COMS. SINCE I THOUGHT WE WERE EXECUTING THE MISSED APCH PROPERLY I WANTED TO CLB AND HOPED TO GET BACK WITH CTR. AT ABOUT 4500 FT MSL; CTR CONTACTED US AND TOLD US WE WERE TOO HIGH AND SHOULD BE AT 2600 FT IN THE HOLD. I BLAME THIS ON RELYING ON ANOTHER PLT WITHOUT CLR CUT DUTIES AND ALSO WOULD STRONGLY SUGGEST A NOTE ON THE MISSED APCH THAT CTR FREQ IS UNAVAILABLE AT 2600 FT AND TO CAL PRINCETON ON 122.45. A REAL MISSED IS TOO BUSY TO HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT LOST COMS!
