ATX SMT R LNDG GEAR COLLAPSED DURING LNDG ROLL RESULTING IN THE ACFT VEERING OFF THE SIDE OF THE RWY.
WHILE APCHING ELKO FOR LNDG; I HEARD AWOS RPT WINDS AS 250/21630; AND UNICOM RPTED WINDS AS 230/19631 WHILE I WAS ON DOWNWIND FOR RWY 23. WHILE I WAS ON BASE AND FINAL OF MY VISUAL PATTERN; I PERFORMED LNDG CHKS; CONFIRMING I HAD A GREEN GEAR DOWN LIGHT; AND FLEW A FULL FLAP PATTERN AND LNDG. APPROX 10 FT IN THE AIR ABOVE THE RWY I FELT THE ACFT BUFFETED BY A WIND GUST WHICH CAUSED IT TO YAW TO THE R ABOUT 10 DEGS; AND THEN CORRECT BACK. IT DIDN'T BALLOON; BUT INSTEAD IT SETTLED FOR A FIRM; BUT NOT PARTICULARLY HARD TOUCHDOWN. IMMEDIATELY UPON LNDG; THE R SIDE OF THE ACFT SETTLED LOWER THAN IT SHOULD HAVE (I HAD TOUCHED DOWN APPROX WINGS LEVEL--POSSIBLY R MAIN GEAR FIRST) AND THE GEAR WARNING HORN BEGAN TO SOUND. I GAVE L AILERON IMMEDIATELY TO HOLD THE WINGS LEVEL AND HELD THAT FOR A FEW SECONDS UNTIL LOSING AILERON AUTH AS THE AIRSPD BLED OFF. AFTER A FEW SECONDS; THE R WINGTIP BEGAN TO CONTACT THE RWY FOLLOWED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY WITH THE PROPELLERS OF THE R ENG CONTACTING THE RWY (PWR WAS AT IDLE). SOON AFTER; THE ACFT BEGAN TO DEPART THE RWY OFF THE R SIDE AND CAME TO REST 50 YARDS OFF THE SIDE OF THE RWY A LITTLE OVER 1000 FT FROM THE INITIAL LNDG POINT. I CUTOFF MIXTURES; FUEL SELECTORS OFF; AND BATTERY; GENERATORS; AND MAGNETOS OFF AND EMER EGRESSED. REGARDING THE LNDG; I THINK THE WIND GUST THAT HIT ME MADE IT DIFFICULT TO MAKE AN OPTIMAL; SMOOTH LNDG; BUT IT ALSO WASN'T ANYTHING THAT WARRANTED A GAR. 2 PLT WITNESSES ON THE GND SAID IT APPEARED MY LNDG WAS GOOD; AND I DON'T THINK I DID ANYTHING THAT CAUSED THE GEAR TO COLLAPSE. I SUSPECT A MECHANICAL FAILURE IN THE GEAR.
