Synopsis

PLT OF A CPR SMT TWIN TURBO PROP MADE A 'HARD' LNDG CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FUSELAGE; WING AND PROP.

Narrative

UPON COMPLETION OF THE ABOVE PRACTICE; A STEEP DSCNT TO 3000 FT WAS EFFECTED AND A PRACTICE ILS APCH TO RWY 4 AT 7A1 WAS MADE. DURING THIS PRACTICE APCH; GREER APCH CTL RELEASED ACFT TO UNICOM FREQ. IN FINAL DSCNT TO LNDG; GRADUAL PWR REDUCTIONS WERE MADE TO CTL SPD AND RATE OF DSCNT. DURING ALL PHASES OF THIS FLT UNTIL XING THE RWY END; CONDITIONS WERE NORMAL. AFTER XING THE RWY END; ANOTHER PWR REDUCTION WAS MADE. EVIDENTLY THIS PWR REDUCTION; INADVERTENTLY; EXCEEDED THE LIMIT WHERE ACFT COULD REMAIN FLYING AND A HARDER THAN NORMAL LNDG WAS EFFECTED. UPON ROLLOUT; NO VIBRATION WAS DETECTED; NO DAMAGE WAS NOTED. THIS LACK OF ANY INDICATION OF ANY PROB CONTINUED THROUGH A TAXI TO THE TKOF END OF RWY 4; A TKOF FROM RWY 4; A SECOND LNDG ON RWY 4; A TAXI TO THE END OF RWY 4 AND A TKOF FROM RWY 22. AFTER TKOF FROM RWY 22 A VFR FLT WAS MADE WITH A FULL STOP LNDG AT SPA. CONTACT WAS MAINTAINED WITH GREER APCH DURING THIS FLT AND ALL CONDITIONS WERE NORMAL. AFTER LNDG AT SPA; PROP TIPPING ON THE R PROP WAS FOUND. ONE DAY LATER THE R STRUT WAS FOUND TO BE LEAKING AND 3 DAYS LATER SOME SKIN WRINKLING WAS DISCOVERED ON THE R WING AND LOWER BODY. AT THIS TIME THE INSURANCE CARRIER WAS NOTIFIED. ON JUL/XX/94 A REPAIR QUOTATION WAS RECEIVED FROM AVIATION CITING STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. IN COMPLIANCE WITH NTSB 830 THE FAA WAS NOTIFIED AT XA15 LCL TIME JUL/XX/94 OF THE INCIDENT. NO INJURIES; FATALITIES; OR DAMAGE TO OTHER PROPERTY OCCURRED DURING THIS INCIDENT. PRIOR TO RECEIVING THIS QUOTATION; DID NOT HAVE THE EXPERTISE OR THE CONFIRMING DATA TO DECLARE THAT THE DAMAGE TO ACFT WAS SIGNIFICANT AND SERIOUS.
