Synopsis

TKOF ABORTED DUE TO SPOILER HANDLE BEING OUT OF IT'S DETENT IN A B-737-300. A POSSIBLE PUB DEFICIENCY.

Narrative

UPON INITIAL ADVANCEMENT OF THE THRUST LEVERS THE TKOF WARNING HORN SOUNDED. I REJECTED THE TKOF AND TAXIED OFF THE RWY ONLY WITH LIGHT BRAKING AND NO REVERSE WAS USED. THE ACFT DID NOT EXCEED 60 KTS. AN INITIAL INSPECTION OF THE CTLS REVEALED THE SPD BRAKE HANDLE WAS NOT COMPLETELY DOWN IN ITS DETENT. I RESET THE SPD BRAKE HANDLE DOWN IN THE DETENT. I THEN TESTED THE SYS BY ADVANCING BOTH THRUST LEVERS. THE TKOF WARNING HORN DID NOT SOUND. I THEN ADVISED THE TWR WE WERE READY FOR TKOF. WE WERE CLRED FULL TKOF. WE DEPARTED WITHOUT ANY FURTHER DELAY. CONCLUSION -- MAINT WAS WORKING ON THE #1 THRUST LEVER REVERSER WHEN WE RPTED TO THE ACFT. MAINT MUST HAVE BUMPED THE SPD BRAKE HANDLE OUT OF ITS DETENT. SINCE THE SPD BRAKE IS NOT IN OUR NORMAL PREFLT. IT WENT UNNOTICED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR WAS NOT CERTAIN THAT THE SPD BRAKE CHK WAS ON THE COCKPIT MANUAL CHKLIST AND IS GOING TO SEE IF IT IS LISTED ON THAT OR THE AMPLIFIED ONE. HE SAID THAT 'HE MIGHT HAVE MISSED IT' SO FAR AS THE AMPLIFIED LIST IS CONCERNED. THE ACFT WAS ON A THROUGH FLT; NOT AN ORIGINATION. OTHER ACR CHKLIST DESIGNS ARE SIMILAR; NOT HAVING THE SPD BRAKE HANDLE ON THE MANUAL CHKLIST BUT IN THE AMPLIFICATION FOR USE AT ENRTE STATIONS. SEEMS AN ODDITY TO THE RPTR THAT THIS SIT EXISTS.
