Synopsis

MLG TAXIED THROUGH TXWY CONSTRUCTION DIRT ON THE RWY. THIS WAS RPTED AS SMOKE COMING FROM ONE LNDG GEAR BY ANOTHER FLC.

Narrative

AFTER COMPLETING EXTERIOR/INTERIOR PREFLTS WITH NO ABNORMALITIES NOTED; WE PUSHED BACK; SET THE BRAKES AND STARTED THE L ENG. WE BEGAN OUTBOUND TAXI WITH RAMP CTL AND RECEIVED CLRNC TO TAXI OUT OF THE RAMP VIA TXWY I; L ON TXWY 31; R ON THE OUTER FOR RWY 17R. WHILE TAXIING NBOUND ON THE OUTER; ANOTHER ACR PLANE RPTED TO GND THAT OUR R BRAKE WAS SMOKING. AS WE CONTINUED TO TAXI; GND CTL RELAYED THAT TO US AND WE DISCUSSED THE SIT. PREFLT SHOWED THE R STRUT/WHEEL/BRAKE ASSEMBLY CLEAN AND DRY WITH NO LEAKS. WE SET THE BRAKES FOR ENG START AND HAD NOT USED THEM SINCE. BRAKE TEMP SHOWED NORMAL (90 DEGS CENTIGRADE) FOR THE SIT. THERE WERE NO INDICATIONS OF HYD LEAK/FLUID LOSS ON QUANTITY GAUGES FOR THE R SYS. THE BRAKES WERE NOT PULLING OR GRABBING DURING TAXI. WE CONTINUED TAXI; STARTED THE R ENG AND DEPARTED; AS WE HAD EVERY REASON TO BELIEVE EVERYTHING WAS OK. ONCE AIRBORNE; WE DISCUSSED HOW 'DIFFERENT' THE TXWY LOOKED IN THE AREA THAT WE HAD PASSED THROUGH WHEN WE WERE TOLD OF THE SMOKING BRAKE. WE WERE TAXIING SLIGHTLY FASTER THAN NORMAL. WE WERE TAXIING THROUGH AN AREA WHERE THERE HAD VERY RECENTLY BEEN CONSTRUCTION CREWS WORKING ON THE TXWYS. THE STRIPE PATTERN RUNNING PERPENDICULARLY ACROSS THE TXWY WAS FROM A SWEEPER; AND IT APPARENTLY DID NOT DO A VERY GOOD JOB. IT BECAME APPARENT TO US THAT WE WERE KICKING UP QUITE A BIT OF DUST; MAINLY DUE TO OUR TAXI SPD. POST FLT WALK AROUND REVEALED NO LEAKS OR FLUID ON THE STRUT/BRAKE/WHEEL ASSEMBLY. BRAKE TEMP AFTER LNDG WAS NORMAL (180 DEGS CENTIGRADE) AFTER USE DURING ROLLOUT/TAXI IN. WE FELT THAT OUR PERFORMANCE/INTRACOCKPIT COMS ABOUT THE SIT WERE VERY GOOD. HOWEVER; WE SHOULD HAVE RELAYED THE INFO ABOUT THE CONSTRUCTION AND DUST BACK TO DFW GND CTL.
