SMA HAS RADIO PROBS; ENTERS CLASS C AIRSPACE WITHOUT CLRNC.

Narrative

I DEPARTED FROM (TMA) TIFTON; GA; ARPT IN RTE TO PICK UP A FRIEND'S DAUGHTER IN SYLVESTER; GA (SYV); AND FLY HER TO TALLAHASSEE; FL; TO BOARD A FLT TO BALTIMORE; MD. AT BOTH TIMES MY RADIOS WERE WORKING ON DEP. WHEN I FLEW OVER CARIO; GA; I CHANGED MY FREQ TO TALLAHASSEE; FL; UNICOM AND WHEN I GOT APPROX 20-25 MI OUT I BEGAN CALLING (TLH) APCH (NO RESPONSE). I TRIED GND CTL (NO RESPONSE). I TRIED UNICOM (NO RESPONSE). BY THAT TIME I WAS OVER TALLAHASSEE (TLH) ARPT I KNEW I HAD RADIO PROBS AND THERE WAS AN AVIONICS SHOP THERE. WITH MY FRIEND'S DAUGHTER FLYING WITH ME AND MY RADIOS OUT; I ELECTED TO LAND ON RWY 90. I MADE A WIDE GAR W OF THE ARPT TO SEARCH FOR TFC. I SAW NO DANGER AND I LANDED. WHEN I WENT TO THE RAMP TO CALL THE TWR AND EXPLAIN WHAT I DID; THEY SAID I HAD GARBLE IN MY RADIO XMISSION; I ALSO HEARD GARBLE ON MY END AND ASSUMED THEY COULD HEAR ME. AFTER OUR CONVERSATION; THE AVIONICS SHOP CHKED MY RADIO. I WAS ABLE TO TALK TO THE TWR AND GND CTL; BUT AFTER I DEPARTED FROM TLH I SQUAWKED A FREQ AND THEY TOLD ME THEN I HAD NO MODE C AND NOT TO RETURN TO TLH UNLESS IT WAS REPAIRED. PLEASE UNDERSTAND MY RADIOS WERE IN WORKING ORDER UNTIL I APCHED (TLH) AIRSPACE. THE AIRPLANE I WAS FLYING BELONGS TO MR X. HE HAD JUST HAD AN ANNUAL DONE AND EVERYTHING WAS IN WORKING ORDER. MR X IS FULLY AWARE OF THE RADIO PROB AND THE RADIO IS BEING REPAIRED TODAY.
