Synopsis

LGT GIVEN TXWY HOLD INSTRUCTIONS; THEN CLRED TO PROCEED; THEN CHEWED OUT AS THEY COMPLY.

Narrative

GND CTL TOLD US TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY 'V-2.' IT IS UNMARKED ON THE ARPT (NO SIGN) BUT WE WERE ABLE TO LOCATE IT ON ARPT DIAGRAM. AFTER HOLDING SHORT OF V FOR SEVERAL MINS; WE ASKED IF WE COULD CONTINUE. GND ASKED US ABOUT OUR GATE; AND THEN TOLD US TO CONTINUE. AFTER XING THE INTXN (V-2); GND CTL SAID 'YOU WENT RIGHT THROUGH IT' (V- 2). THIS WAS RIGHT AFTER HE CLRED US TO CROSS IT (V-2) AND AFTER WE HAD HELD SHORT OF IT FOR SEVERAL MINS. (IT SEEMS THAT HE FORGOT HIS INSTRUCTIONS TO US; AND WHERE WE WERE ON THE ARPT. ALSO; ALTHOUGH WE WERE ABLE TO FIND THE INTXN ON THE ARPT. DIAGRAM; WE FOUND NO SIGN FOR IT ON THE ARPT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THAT SIGN CHANGES HAVE BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME TIME AND BELIEVES THAT THE SIGNAGE IS OK NOW. POSSIBLE EXCEPTION WOULD BE THE SIGN BLOWN OVER BY A 747 THE OTHER DAY. RPTR HAD LANDED ON RWY 3R; TURNED OFF AT V TXWY AND WERE TAXIING W. COMPLIED WITH GND CTLR INSTRUCTIONS AND GOT CHEWED OUT FOR HIS EFFORTS. HE INDICATED THAT THIS HAPPENED FREQUENTLY AT DTW. THE PROB IS THE TERMINAL AREA WITH OLD CONCOURSES AND TOO MANY ACFT IN 1 PLACE AT 1 TIME. RPTR BELIEVES THE TERMINAL SHOULD BE COMPLETELY DEMOLISHED AND START FROM SCRATCH WITH A NEW ONE.
