PLT OF SMA SEL LOST CTL OF ACFT DURING LNDG GOING OFF END OF RWY AND HITTING A TREE. THE ACFT SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE WING AND FUEL STORAGE SYS.
I DEPARTED BMG AT APPROX AM45 EST ON FEB/XX/95. AT AM15 I WAS APCHING ARETZ ARPT (3AR) NEAR LAF; IN. LAF ATIS RPTED WINDS FROM 330 DEGS AT 13 KTS GUSTING 18 KTS AND THE ACTIVE RWY AT 3AR WAS RWY 25. ANTICIPATING A SIZABLE XWIND COMPONENT; I DECIDED TO USE 20 DEGS OF FLAPS AND 75 KTS ON FINAL (NORMAL LNDG CONFIGN FOR THE AIRPLANE IS 40 DEGS AND 65 KTS). THE APCH WAS HIGH ON THE 2812 FT RWY. AT THE MIDPOINT; THE PLANE APPEARED TO BE ABOUT TO SET DOWN ON THE GND. THEREFORE; I DECIDED NOT TO INITIATE A GAR. HOWEVER; BEFORE IT SET DOWN; THE PLANE CAUGHT A GUST OF AIR AND CONTINUED TO FLOAT. AT THIS POINT; I DID NOT FEEL THAT I HAD SUFFICIENT ROOM NOR SPD TO SAFELY ACCOMPLISH A GAR. I ALLOWED THE PLANE TO CONTINUE TO FLOAT. THE PLANE FINALLY SET DOWN APPROX 100 FT FROM THE END OF THE RWY. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND WENT FULL AFT WITH THE ELEVATOR. THE PLANE WENT OFF THE END OF THE RWY AND INTO THE GRASS. ON THE GRASS; NEITHER DIRECTIONAL CTL NOR BRAKING WERE AS EFFECTIVE AS THEY HAD BEEN ON THE ASPHALT. APPROX 100 FT FROM THE END OF THE RWY; THE PLANE'S L WING IMPACTED WITH A TREE. I SHUT THE PLANE DOWN; AND THEN; NOTICING THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE WING; EXITED THE PLANE.
