EXPERIMENTAL ACFT HAS BRAKE PROB ON LNDG; EXITS RWY.
HAVE CURRENT MEDICAL AND BFR. THIS WAS A 1 HR LCL FLT FOLLOWING EXTENSIVE ANNUAL INSPECTION. ALL SYS NOMINAL. THIS IS A CONVENTIAL GEAR 40 PERCENT SCALE P-51 IN IMMACULATE CONDITION. DURING A NORMAL LNDG; DECELERATED TO ALLOW TAIL TO COME DOWN. AT APPROX 20-30 MPH TAPPED TOE BRAKES TO TURN OFF AT NEXT TXWY. L TOE BRAKE FUNCTIONED; BUT R BRAKE STIFF. THEREFORE; ACFT MOVED L. AT THAT SPD FULL R RUDDER UNABLE TO CORRECT L DRIFT. ATTEMPTED TO TAP BOTH BRAKES AGAIN. L BRAKE NOW CAUSED ACFT INTO ABOUT A 45 DEG EXIT TOWARD RWY LIGHTS AND A SANDY AREA OFF L SIDE OF RWY. PUSHED HARDER ON R TOE BRAKE HOPING TO REMAIN ON RWY; HOWEVER; NOW BRAKE CYLINDER RELEASED MOMENTARILY LOCKING R WHEEL. NOW DOWN TO ABOUT 10 MPH BUT THIS CAUSED ACFT TO NOSE OVER AND SLIDE ON LOWER ENG COWLING ABOUT 3 FT. ACFT STOPPED NOSE DOWN 10-15 FT TO L OF RWY 8; NEAR INTXN OF RWY 13-31. ONLY DAMAGE WAS SMALL NICK ON 1 PROP; AND 3 INCH BEND ON OTHER PROP TIP. ALSO ABOUT 4 INCH FIBERGLASS HOLE ON LOWER ENG COWLING THAT RUBBED ON ASPHALT. NO INJURY TO PLT. ACFT RETURNED TO MY HANGAR AT FXE FOR FUTURE INSPECTION; AND REQUIRED PROP AND ENG INSPECTION; AND TO INSPECT WHY R BRAKE CYLINDER DID NOT RESPOND PROPERLY.
