CAPT OF AN LGT COMPLAINS ABOUT THE TWR CTLR COMMUNICATING TO HIM DURING LNDG ROLL.
FO IS FLYING A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 24R AT LAX USING THE ILS GUIDANCE. LNDG WAS NORMAL AND AT ABOUT 90 KTS ON ROLLOUT (DURING REVERSING) LAX TWR SAYS SOMETHING LIKE 'TURN LEFT AT THE HIGHSPD; HOLD SHORT OF RWY 24L.' WE ARE IN A VERY BUSY PHASE OF FLT; TRANSFERRING CTL OF THE ACFT AND BRAKING; AND TURNING FOR THE HIGHSPD. I DO NOT ANSWER THE TWR BECAUSE I AM NOT SURE TWR HAS CALLED ME SPECIFICALLY (BECAUSE OF THE REVERSER NOISE). CTL OF THE ACFT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN REPLYING TO ANY ATC COM. NO PLT WOULD EVEN TRY TO CROSS RWY 24L WITHOUT CLRNC TO DO SO. (SO IT IS ALMOST AN EXTRANEOUS RADIO INSTRUCTION). AS I GET ONTO THE HIGHSPD AT ABOUT 25 KTS; THE TWR CALLS AGAIN AND SAYS I NEED TO 'READBACK THE HOLD SHORT OF RWY 24L INSTRUCTIONS.' I TRY DIPLOMACY FIRST; SAYING SOMETHING LIKE 'SORRY WE WERE KIND OF BUSY THERE.' LAX TWR'S COMMENT WAS VERY SARCASTIC: 'OH; SORRY; I THOUGHT THAT PLANE HAD 2 PLTS.' I THOUGHT THIS WAS VERY INSULTING; BUT I DID KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT AND DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING MORE ON THE ATC FREQ. THE FO THEN HANDED THE RWY XING AND GND TAXI-IN COMS. ALL ATC TWRS NEED TO STOP THIS PRACTICE OF ISSUING INSTRUCTIONS AND 'READBACKS' WHILE ACFT ARE AT HIGH SPD ON THE RWY. WASHINGTON NATIONAL ARPT DOES THIS ALL THE TIME; TOO. THIS IS MORE PREVALENT THAN ATC WOULD ADMIT. LAX TWR SHOULD CONFINE IT'S COMMENTS TO REQUIRED ATC COMS AND STOP INSULTING PLTS WHO DO NOT ANSWER THEM IMMEDIATELY UPON TOUCHDOWN. THEY SHOULD KNOW BY NOW THAT SOME PLTS WRITE LETTERS!
