FMC WAS PROGRAMMED FOR SID AND AN 'EXPECTED' CLB CLRNC. ACTUAL CLB CLRNC WAS NOT AS 'EXPECTED.' CTLR CAUGHT ERROR.
UPON DEP FROM JFK ON AUG/TUE/95 AT XA22 EDT WE DEPARTED ON RWY 31L AND INITIATED A L TURN TOWARD THE CANARSIE VOR. 'LNAV' WAS SELECTED FOR NAV. AFTER XING THE CRI VOR; WE PROCEEDED TO TRACK OUTBOUND ON THE 176 DEG RADIAL. DEP CTL GAVE US A HDG CHANGE TO (255 DEG)? AND ASKED IF WE WERE EXECUTING A 'BREEZY POINT CLB.' WE HAD THE 'CANARSIE CLB' SELECTED IN OUR NAV SYS. AFTER WE INITIATED A TURN TO THE W; WE WERE GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS TO PROCEED DIRECT ROBBINSVILLE VOR. OUR INITIAL ERROR WAS ANTICIPATING OUR DEP AND SELECTING IT IN THE FMC. WE THEN DID NOT SEE THE CHANGE ON OUR PDC. THIS ACFT DID NOT HAVE A PRINTER AND WE WERE READING THROUGH THE PAGES ON THE ACARS; DIDN'T REALIZE THE BREEZY POINT TRANSITION WAS SPECIFIED. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE PUT IN THE TRANSITION AHEAD OF RECEIVING OUR CLRNC. ALL ACFT THAT USE PDC'S SHOULD HAVE PRINTERS. WE SHOULD HAVE SCRUTINIZED THE PDC MORE CLOSELY; ESPECIALLY SINCE WE DON'T FLY OUT OF JFK VERY OFTEN. DEP WAS ALERT AND CAUGHT OUR ERROR ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. THERE WEREN'T ANY APPARENT TFC PROBS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 314107: DURING PREFLT; I LOADED FLT PLAN IN THE FMS PRIOR TO GETTING PDC. I ALSO LOADED THE CLB I THOUGHT WE WOULD GET; THE CANARSIE CLB. LESSON LEARNED: I WON'T 'PRE-LOAD' A SPECIFIC DEP SEGMENT UNTIL I HAVE THE CLRNC IN HAND AND KNOW WHICH ONE I'M USING! WE JUST DID NOT LEAVE OURSELVES A REMINDER TO CHK THE DEP SEGMENT.
