LTT FO RPT ON HDG TRACK DEV AND NON ADHERENCE TO ATC CLRNC INSTRUCTION PROC.

Narrative

AS THE FO; I PICKED UP THE CLRNC FROM LGA TO IAD. I WAS GIVEN THE LGA 6 DEP WITH THE WHITESTONE CLB. 2 DAYS PRIOR I WAS GIVEN THE SAME CLRNC BUT IT WAS MODIFIED WITH RADAR VECTORS BECAUSE THE BLIMP WAS CIRCLING THE EVENT NEAR SHEA STADIUM. WHEN I TOOK OFF I TURNED TO 175 DEG HDG BUT NEVER TURNED TO 050 DEG HDG AT 2.5 DME. I WAS WAITING FOR A VECTOR FROM CTL. IN EFFECT I THOUGHT I WAS DOING THE CONEY ISLAND CLBOUT AND WOULD HAVE COMPLETED THAT IF THE CTLR HADN'T TURNED ME TO A HDG OF 360 DEGS EXPEDITIOUSLY BEFORE I REACHED JFK'S AIRSPACE. THE PROB AROSE WHEN I PICKED UP THE CLRNC AND MORE ACCURATELY LOOKED UP THE WRONG CLBOUT PROC ON THE LGA 6 SID. ALSO BY ASSUMING I WOULD BE GIVEN VECTORS AS IF THE BLIMP WAS IN THE WAY; I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN TO TURN AT 2.5 DME TO 050 DEG HDG. BUT INSTEAD IT STUCK IN MY MIND TO DO THE CONEY ISLAND CLBOUT; WHICH TAKES YOU OVER CANARSIE VOR. THE CTLR DID A NICE JOB OF CATCHING THE MISTAKE AND INQUIRED TO WHICH CLBOUT WE WERE ON. WE TOLD HIM WE WERE GIVEN THE WHITESTONE CLB. HIS QUICK CORRECTIVE ACTION BY TURNING US R TO A 360 DEG HDG SAVED US FROM ENTERING JFK'S AIRSPACE. I'M STILL MAD AT MYSELF FOR NOT KNOWING TO TURN L ON CLBOUT BECAUSE I HAD BEEN THERE 2 DAYS BEFORE AND DONE THE SAME THING. BUT THIS TIME THE BLIMP WAS NOT THERE SO IT WAS LOGICAL TO ME TO TURN R TO HEAD SW TOWARDS IAD. MORE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE THE PLANES I SAW EARLIER TAKING OFF AND TURNING R. I DID NOT SEE THEIR L TURN BECAUSE THEY WERE IN THE CLOUDS BY THAT TIME. FACTORS: CTLR ON CLRNC DELIVERY TOLD ME RADAR VECTORS WHITESTONE. OTHER ACFT TAKING OFF WITH A R TURN OFF OF RWY 13 LGA THEN INTO CLOUDS. THINKING OF CONEY ISLAND CLB TOWARDS CANARSIE (SWBOUND TO IAD). LOOKING UP AND READING LGA 6 DEP CONEY ISLAND CLB RATHER THAN WHITESTONE. NOT DOUBLECHKING AS A CREW. DAYS EARLIER HAVING A BLIMP IN MY WAY AND THE ABSENCE OF IT ON THIS DAY.
