FLC OF AN MLG OVERSHOT FINAL APCH CAUSING A CONFLICT WITH ANOTHER ACFT ON APCH TO ANOTHER RWY.
AFTER PASSING NE OF DEN HDG N; THE CREW QUERIED THE CTLR AND MENTIONED WE HAD THE FIELD IN SIGHT. WE WERE GIVEN A 210 KT SPD AND SOON WE WERE TURNED W AND GIVEN A DSCNT. THE CTLR ASKED IF WE HAD TFC FOR RWY 17R. THE CREW ANSWERED NEGATIVE. SOON AFTER; THE CTLR ASKED IF WE DID HAVE TFC FOR RWY 17R. THE CREW ANSWERED 'WE HAVE MANY ACFT AND COULD NOT DISTINGUISH THE SPECIFIC ACFT.' THE CREW WAS THEN SLOWED TO 170 KTS AND ASKED IF WE HAD THE FIELD IN SIGHT. THE CREW ANSWERED AFFIRMATIVE; WE HAVE THE FIELD IN SIGHT. WE WERE CLRED FOR VISUAL TO RWY 17R. WE WERE THEN IMMEDIATELY TOLD OF TFC AGAIN FOR RWY 17R; TOLD TO SLOW TO 150 KTS AND SQUARE TURN TO FINAL FOR SPACING. THE CREW WAS NOW ON BASE LEG TRYING TO SLOW; DSND; CONFIGURE; AND FIND ACFT WHILE LOOKING INTO THE AFTERNOON SUN. WE SAW A COUPLE OF POTENTIAL TARGETS AHEAD AND ALSO L ON TCASII TRYING TO PINPOINT WHICH ACFT COULD BE OUR TFC. I SAW A POTENTIAL TARGET THAT APPEARED VISUALLY BTWN RWYS 17R AND 16 BUT WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM IF IT WAS REALLY OUR TARGET. DURING OUR TURN BACK TO FINAL; WE RECEIVED A TA ALERT FOR AN ACFT ABOVE; BEHIND AND TO THE R. SIMULTANEOUSLY WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM APCH SAYING WE WERE IN RWY 16 ARR AREA AND OF POTENTIAL CONFLICT AND TO TURN TOWARD RWY 17R FINAL. I LOOKED BACK AND SAW THE ACFT DSNDING FROM THE R AND BEHIND AND SAID WE NEEDED TO INCREASE TURN RATE AND DSND. THEN THE TCASII WENT TO RA MOMENTARILY BUT THE CAPT WAS ALREADY CORRECTING. I SAW PLUS 800 FT ON THE RA. AFTER A MOMENT; THE CTLR GAVE ORIGINAL TFC 3 MI AHEAD AND SWITCHED US TO TWR. FLT COMPLETED NORMALLY. ORD BASED CREW NOT FAMILIAR WITH DEN PROCS (MY FIRST TIME INTO DEN). TFC SPACED TOO TIGHTLY; CTLR NOT REALIZING LACK OF DSCNT NEEDED TO SLOW 60 KTS. NOT WARNED OF POTENTIAL TFC TO THE W AND BEHIND (N). CREW CONCENTRATION ON WHAT SEEMED TO BE URGENT ORIGINAL TFC.
