LNDG WITHOUT CLRNC.
MIDWAY TWR CLAIMS PLTS ON ABC FLT XX DID NOT GET LNDG CLRNCS. I WAS THE FE ON FLT. I HEARD APCH CTL SWITCH ABC XX OVER TO TWR. THE CAPT CALLED TWR AND RECEIVED NO ANSWER. THE WX WAS RAINING AND TURB. CAPT TRIED TO CALL TWR A COUPLE OF TIMES AND NEVER RECEIVED AN ANSWER FROM TWR. CONTINUED THE APCH AND LANDED SAFELY. NEVER TALKED TO TWR UNTIL ON THE GND AND THAT WAS ON GND CTL. DURING THE EARLY STAGES OF THE FINAL APCH THE RAINS AND TURB WAS SEVERE. I MADE SURE THE CHKLIST AND MONITORING THE FO'S APCH WAS ACCOMPLISHED. I STILL DID NOT HEAR ANY COM DURING ANY PART OF THE ILS APCH FROM MIDWAY TWR. ALSO RPTED NAV #1 PROBS TO CHICAGO APCH. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 319978: SECOND LEG OF 4; ATL-MDW. APCHING CGT VOR MY NAV RECEIVER INDICATED UNRELIABLE. ATTEMPTS TO RECYCLE FREQ UNSUCCESSFUL. PUT NAV #1 ON AUX. WORKED OK. ATTEMPTS TO IDENT FO'S ILS TOOK LONGER THAN NORMAL BECAUSE SIGNAL INTERMITTENT. QUERIED APCH ABOUT ANY NAV PROBS; NONE MENTIONED. FINALLY IDENTED. CLRED FOR APCH AND SENT TO TWR. NAV #1 NOW TUNED TO ILS BUT UNRELIABLE IN LOC. ALERTED FO TO R XWIND THAT MIGHT AFFECT INTERCEPTION. CALLED TWR; NO RESPONSE. RECYCLED NAV #1 ILS ATTEMPTING TO ESTABLISH SIGNAL; LISTENING FOR IDENT; MONITORING APCH PROGRESS. FINAL CHKLIST AND ANOTHER CALL TO TWR; NO RESPONSE INSIDE FINAL FIX. FINALLY IDENTED NAV #1; GND AND RWY CONTACT NOTED AND ACFT DRIFTING L. FO TOOK OVER VISUALLY AND I MONITORED INSTS COMMENTING ON DRIFT. I DON'T RECALL ANY OTHER ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT TWR. NOTING CLR RWY WE PROCEEDED TO LAND. UPON CLRING RWY; CONTACTED GND WITH OTHER RADIO. GND SENT US BACK TO TWR AND THAT WAS OUR FIRST CONTACT WITH THEM. NAV #1 ILS SIGNAL ALSO CHKED OK ON GND. NO NAV/COM PROBS DURING REMAINDER OF TRIP. THE HURRIED SEQUENCE OF EVENTS PRECLUDED BACK-UP RADIO ATTEMPT.
