B727 FLC HAS RED AND GREEN LIGHT SHOWING FOR NOSE GEAR WHEN EXTENDED. MAKES MISSED APCH; FOLLOWED ABNORMAL PROCS. DECLARES EMER AND LANDS.
WHEN LNDG GEAR WAS EXTENDED; THE LNDG GEAR INDICATIONS WERE: L MAIN GEAR 'GREEN;' R MAIN GEAR 'GREEN;' NOSE GEAR 'GREEN AND RED.' THE LNDG GEAR WAS THEN RETRACTED AND EXTENDED AGAIN. THE SAME INDICATIONS OF BOTH MAIN GEAR GREEN (DOWN AND LOCKED) INDICATIONS AND NOSE GEAR (DOWN AND LOCKED) AND RED (GEAR UNSAFE) OCCURRED. FLAPS WERE THEN EXTENDED FROM THE 25 DEG POS TO THE 30 DEG POS AND THE AURAL WARNING HORN SOUNDED INDICATING AN UNSAFE GEAR. WE EXECUTED A GAR. WE FOLLOWED THE ABNORMAL PROCS AS SPECIFIED IN OUR PLTS OPERATING MANUAL. THE SO AND I BOTH VERIFIED THAT THE NOSE GEAR WAS DOWN AND LOCKED; BY VISUALLY INSPECTING THE RED ALIGNMENT STRIPE THROUGH THE NOSE GEAR VIEWING PORT. WE DECLARED AN EMER. WHEN RETURNING TO THE ARPT FOR LNDG THE RED NOSE GEAR UNSAFE LIGHT EXTINGUISHED AND THE NOSE GEAR GREEN LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. LNDG ON RWY 25R AT LAX WAS ACCOMPLISHED NORMALLY. AFTER TAXIING CLR OF THE RWY THE ACFT WAS STOPPED AND GND CREW INSTALLED THE LNDG GEAR SAFETY PINS. ACFT WAS THEN TAXIED TO THE GATE NORMALLY.
