Synopsis

DORNIER 328-100 FLC BEING MARSHALED TO TAXI FROM PARKING. WINGTIP HITS PARKED SF34-L.

Narrative

DORNIER 328-110 ACFT WAS LOCATED AT GATE. ALL REQUIRED BEFORE AND AFTER START CHKLISTS HAD BEEN COMPLETED. AFTER ENG START; I HAD DIRECTED THE FO TO CONTACT RAMP CTL FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. I HAD PREVIOUSLY NOTICED AN SF34/L PARKED OUT OF POS AT THE ADJACENT GATE X. DUE TO THE PROX OF THE ACFT; I REQUESTED MARSHALING ASSISTANCE FOR TAXI OUT. A MARSHALLER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED ME WITH APPROPRIATE SIGNALS. TAXI WAS THEN BEGUN UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE MARSHALLER. AS THE ACFT TAXIED UNDER THE DIRECTION OF A MARSHALLER; THE L WING STRUCK THE SF34/L. AFTER CONTACT; THE ENGS WERE SHUT DOWN AND A NON-EMER DEPLANING OCCURRED. NO INJURIES TO PERSONNEL. MARSHALLER RECEIVED VERY LITTLE TRAINING. ACFT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN PARKED IN THOSE INADEQUATE SIZED GATES. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 326222: I BELIEVE THE CAPT FOLLOWED ESTABLISHED COMPANY PROCS. THE PROB IS PLACING TOO LARGE OF AN ACFT ON GATE. THE SF34/L WAS FORWARD OF THE DESIGNATED SPOT BY 3 FT AND WE STILL HIT IT. THE COMPANY HAS REFUSED REPEATED REQUESTS TO RETURN PROPERLY TRAINED MARSHALLERS TO THE RAMP. IF THE COMPANY WOULD HAVE FOLLOWED THESE REQUESTS; THE MARSHALLER AND CAPT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN PLACED INTO THIS SIT WHERE HUMAN ERROR MAY OCCUR.
