DOOR ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT HAD PREVIOUS WRITE-UPS AND HAD BEEN MEL'ED. OTHER LEGS HAD BEEN FLOWN BY THE FLC WITHOUT ANY DOOR ANNUNCIATOR PROB; BUT ON THIS TKOF THE LIGHT CAME ON DURING THE TKOF ROLL AND THE TKOF WAS ABORTED. DOOR WAS THOROUGHLY CHKED AND THE FLT PROCEEDED.

Narrative

ABORTED TKOF AT LGA RWY 13. FEB/WED/96. FLT AB FROM LGA TO IAD. IN ACFT; THE CABIN DOOR ANNUNCIATOR SYS HAD BEEN MEL'ED BY A PREVIOUS CREW. THE CABIN DOOR ANNUNCIATOR ON THE WARNING PANEL HAD BEEN 'PUNCHED OUT' AS PER OPS SPECS MANUAL. WHEN I RECEIVED THE ACFT FROM THE PREVIOUS CREW WE WERE BRIEFED ON THE CABIN DOOR ANNUNCIATOR SYS BEING MEL'ED. TO GET A BETTER SENSE OF THE IRREGULARITY; I PUSHED IN THE CABIN DOOR ANNUNCIATOR TO SEE HOW THE LIGHT FUNCTIONED WHILE FO SECURED; CHKED; MOVED THE DOOR HANDLE; AND THEN DOUBLE CHKED THAT THE DOOR WAS CLOSED. EACH TIME FO WOULD MOVE THE HANDLE THE CABIN DOOR ANNUNCIATOR WOULD ILLUMINATE; EXTINGUISH; ILLUMINATE; AND SO ON. UPON THE FIRST ILLUMINATION OF THE CABIN DOOR ANNUNCIATOR; THE MASTER WARNING FLASHER WOULD ALSO BE ACTIVATED. I ACKNOWLEDGED THE MASTER WARNING FLASHER AND THEN CANCELED IT. I 'PUNCHED OUT' THE CABIN DOOR ANNUNCIATOR; NOW HAVING A BETTER SENSE OF THE PROB. FLT WENT IAD TO LGA TO PWM. FLT WENT PWM TO LGA TO IAD. ALL WAS NORMAL UNTIL THE TKOF ROLL OF OUR LAST LEG; FLT LGA TO IAD. I WAS THE PF; FO WAS THE PNF. THROUGH 60 KTS ON THE TKOF ROLL THE MASTER WARNING FLASHER ILLUMINATED. NO ANNUNCIATOR ON THE WARNING PANEL ILLUMINATED (CABIN DOOR ANNUNCIATOR PUNCHED OUT). I CALLED 'ABORT' AND SLOWED THE ACFT TO TAXI SPD ON THE RWY. I TOLD FO TO TELL THE TWR WE WERE ABORTING THE TKOF. WE WERE ASKED IF WE WOULD NEED ASSISTANCE AND THEN ASKED THE NATURE OF THE PROB. I TOLD THEM WE DID NOT NEED ASSISTANCE AND WE WOULD ADVISE THEM ON THE PROB ONCE WE WERE CLR OF THE RWY. WHILE CLRING THE RWY WE WERE ADVISED TO CONTACT GND CTL. THE MASTER WARNING FLASHER HAD COME ON; BUT NO WARNING ANNUNCIATOR. I PUSHED IN THE CABIN DOOR ANNUNCIATOR AND IT ILLUMINATED. FO MOVED THE CABIN DOOR HANDLE FROM HIS SEAT AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE CABIN DOOR EXTINGUISH; ILLUMINATE; EXTINGUISH; ILLUMINATE; AND SO ON. THE MASTER WARNING FLASHER WOULD BE ACTIVATED BY THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CABIN DOOR ANNUNCIATOR. THIS EXERCISE WAS TO CONFIRM WHAT WE ALREADY KNEW ABOUT THE CABIN DOOR ANNUNCIATOR SYS. WITH THIS CONFIRMATION AND THE KNOWLEDGE THAT NO ANNUNCIATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE WARNING PANEL DURING THE TKOF ROLL; FO AND I WERE CONFIDENT WE KNEW THE ILLUMINATION OF THE MASTER WARNING FLASHER WAS CAUSED BY THE CABIN DOOR ANNUNCIATOR SYS WHICH HAD BEEN MEL'ED. KNOWING THE ACFT WAS SAFE AND IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE MEL WE TOLD GND WE WANTED TO TAXI BACK TO TKOF. THE SUBSEQUENT TKOF WAS WITHOUT INCIDENT.
