LGT ACFT HYDROPLANES AFTER TOUCHDOWN ON WET RWY. STOPS JUST 150 FT FROM END OF RWY.
WE WERE ON VECTORS TO AN ILS RWY 17. APCH CHANGED THE RWY TO RWY 29 AT LAST MIN BECAUSE OF RAIN SHOWERS IN THE AREA. I THOUGHT THE WX WOULD NOT AFFECT OUR APCH TO RWY 17; LOOKING AT THE RADAR. I DID NOT MENTION THIS; EVEN THOUGH RWY 29 WAS ONLY 7200 FT LONG AND WET. I FLEW A GOOD APCH; ON GS AND AIRSPD. OUR SPD WAS HIGH; BECAUSE OUR WT WAS CLOSE TO MAX LNDG WT. WE BRIEFED MEDIUM AUTOBRAKES AND TO DIP BELOW GS TO USE ALL THE RWY. I DID NOT DIP BELOW GS UNTIL DECISION HT; 200 FT AGL. WHEN I DID DIP; IT WAS NOT AS LOW AS I WANTED XING THRESHOLD AT 50 FT AGL. IT WAS A SMOOTH LNDG. THE AUTOBRAKES DID NOT SEEM TO GRAB. CAPT CAME ON THE BRAKES. WHEN HE SAW THE 3000 FT REMAINING MARKER WE BOTH CAME ON THE BRAKES ALL THE WAY AND I INCREASED REVERSE THRUST. THE BRAKES WERE STILL NOT EFFECTIVE. WE REACHED TAXI SPD WITH ABOUT 150 FT TO GO. LESSONS LEARNED: WHEN I THOUGHT ABOUT NOT USING RWY 29; I SHOULD HAVE VERBALIZED THAT. MAKING A FIRM LNDG MAY HAVE PREVENTED THE HYDROPLANE. I BELIEVE THAT WITHOUT THE 3000 FT REMAINING MARKER WE WOULD HAVE REACTED SLOWER AND GONE OFF THE END OF THE RWY. THEY SHOULD BE ON ALL RWYS!!
