Synopsis

PVT PLT OF AN SMA SEL LANDED ON THE WRONG PARALLEL RWY DURING TOUCH AND GO LNDG PRACTICE.

Narrative

I WAS SCHEDULED TO DO LNDG PRACTICE IN THE PATTERN FOR PRACTICE FOR AN INTER-COLLEGIATE EVENT. I WAS VERY NERVOUS ABOUT THIS BECAUSE THE ARPT AT DAYTONA BEACH WAS VERY BUSY. BEING A RELATIVELY NEW PVT PLT; THIS WAS THE BUSIEST ARPT THAT I HAVE BEEN TO. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO USE RWY 7R FOR MY PRACTICE. THERE WAS A GUSTY XWIND BLOWING TOWARD THE RWY; MAKING MY BASE LEG VERY SHORT (IN TIME). I RAISED MY WING LONG ENOUGH TO SPOT THE TFC THAT I WAS BEHIND; THEN BEGAN MY TURN TO FINAL. AFTER ROLLING OUT ON FINAL I SPOTTED THE SAME TYPE OF AIRPLANE THAT I HAD BEEN FOLLOWING DIRECTLY AHEAD OF ME ON SHORT FINAL. I DID MY NORMAL XWIND APCH. UPON REACHING THE NUMBERS THE TFC THAT WAS AHEAD OF ME BEGAN TURNING TO THE L DEPARTING THE RWY. TWR HAD NOT CLRED ME FOR THE OPTION YET; SO I ADDED SOME PWR TO REMAIN ALOFT; AND QUESTIONED THE TWR IF I WERE CLRED. TWR ASKED IF I WAS LINED UP ON FINAL; I RPTED YES. HE (TWR) SAID THAT I WAS CLRED FOR THE OPTION ON RWY 7R. THE PLANE IN FRONT OF ME WAS OFF OF THE RWY SO I REDUCED PWR AND CONCENTRATED ON MAKING A GOOD XWIND LNDG. MY POINT OF TOUCHDOWN WAS BEYOND THE POINT THAT THE PREVIOUS AIRPLANE HAD EXITED THE RWY. I ADDED PWR AND BEGAN MY CLB BACK TO PATTERN ALT. TWR CLRED ANOTHER PLANE FOR THE OPTION ON RWY 7R #2. THE PLANE RPTED THAT NO ONE WAS IN FRONT OF HIM. TWR ASKED MY LOCATION. I REPLIED; JUST DEPARTING RWY 7R. AFTER A SLIGHT PAUSE TWR INFORMED ME THAT I WAS ON RWY 7L. AFTER REALIZING MY MISTAKE I CONFIRMED THAT INDEED I WAS ON RWY 7L. TWR TOLD ME TO SIDE STEP TO RWY 7R AND TO NEVER DO THAT AGAIN! I WON'T! PREVENTION: MY INSTRUCTOR STRESSING THE IMPORTANCE OF READING THE RWY NUMBERS AND TWR KEEPING UP WITH WHO IS WHERE IN THE PATTERN. BUT MOST OF ALL PLT AWARENESS.
