Synopsis

THE PLT OF A PARO OVERTOOK A CESSNA WHILE IN THE PATTERN. WHEN THE PLT LOCATED THE OTHER TFC; AN APOLOGY WAS MADE; BUT 2 DAYS LATER THE RPTR WAS CONTACTED REGARDING THE MATTER.

Narrative

I LOST SIGHT OF CESSNA AFTER HIS DEP; BECAUSE I WAS DOING A TOUCH AND GO. AFTER I TOOK OFF RWY 17; I COULD NOT FIND CESSNA ON HIS XWIND. I TURNED XWIND AFTER SEARCHING FOR THE CESSNA. ON XWIND I COULD NOT SEE THE CESSNA AGAIN. THE SUN WAS AT APPROX EYE LEVEL; AT 12 O'CLOCK AND A HAZE LAYER WAS PRESENT DUE TO THE FACTORIES SURROUNDING THE ARPT. I REDUCED PWR ON MY PARO TO 'PATTERN PWR' TRYING TO SLOW DOWN AND GIVE THE CESSNA MORE TIME; WHEREVER HE WAS; TO GET AHEAD OF ME AND GIVE MYSELF A CUSHION OF SPACE BTWN HIM AND I. AFTERWARDS I TURNED ON R DOWNWIND ASSUMING THE CESSNA WAS ALREADY ON R DOWNWIND. SIMULTANEOUSLY I CALLED TWR PROCLAIMING THAT I WOULD BE FULL STOP; AND I WAS ASSUMING TWR WOULD TELL ME WHERE THE CESSNA WAS. TWR REPLIED WITH 'FOLLOW THE CESSNA.' IMMEDIATELY THE CESSNA TOLD TWR THAT I HAD CUT THEM OFF. AT THAT TIME THE CESSNA WAS AT MY 7-8 O'CLOCK POS AND I HAD HIM IN SIGHT APPROX 1/2 MI AWAY. THE CESSNA WAS EVIDENTLY ON A WIDE PATTERN AT APPROX MY ALT. I APOLOGIZED; TWR CLRED ME TO LAND; AND I LANDED AND WAITED AT MY SCHOOL'S HANGAR FOR TWR TO CALL ME IF THERE WAS A PROB. I WAS CONTACTED 2 DAYS LATER. I WAS IN A MUCH FASTER ACFT; AND IT WAS MY FIRST SOLO IN A COMPLEX ACFT. I DID NOT HAVE MUCH EXPERIENCE WITH THE SPD OF THE ACFT IN THE PATTERN.
