BY THE TIME THE LEAD ACFT WAS CLRED FOR TKOF; THERE WAS ANOTHER ACR ACFT ON FINAL APCH; SO TWR HAD TO CLR RPTR ACFT OFF RWY. JUST AS RPTR CLRED THE RWY; THE OTHER ACFT LANDED BEHIND RPTR AND CAME VERY CLOSE TO RPTR ACFT TAIL; JUST CLRING THE RWY.

#1 FOR TKOF. ACR X WITH LAX CTL TIME CLRED INTO POS AT INTXN. WE WERE TOLD TO MAINTAIN VISUAL; TAXI INTO POS BEHIND X; APPROX 1000 FT. TAXIED SLOW INTO POS TO LET X DEPART; AND SAW ACR Y DC8 ON FINAL FOR RWY 8R. IF X HAD BEEN CLRED TO GO THERE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A PROB. TWR DELAYED TKOF CLRNC. TWR ASKED Y FOR SPD AND HE SAID 160 KTS AS WE SAT ON RWY. FINALLY CLRED FOR TKOF AND TWR STATED THIS ISN'T GOING TO WORK ACR Z; TAXI UP TO INTXN AND TURN OFF RWY TO R. I HAD PWR UP FOR ANTICIPATED TKOF AND MOVED QUICKLY TO INTXN AND SLOWED FOR 90 DEG R TURN. AS I CLRED MY TAIL FROM RWY; I HEARD MY FO EXCLAIM THAT WAS CLOSE AND SAW THE ACR Y DC8 TAIL GO BY OUT THE EYEBROW WINDOW. HE WAS ASKING; AND JUST GETTING CLRNC TO LAND AT ABOUT 50-75 FT. I AM SURE THAT ANYONE WATCHING WOULD CONSIDER THIS A NEAR MISS. NUMEROUS PAX AND 2 CREW MEMBERS IN THE CABIN; AN ACR A AND ACR B; COMMENTED ON THE CLOSENESS. 3 ACFT WERE IN LINE FOR TKOF; ACR Z WAS ONE; AND THEY GOT A GOOD VIEW. THIS SIT SHOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN THIS FAR.
