THE RPTR HAD TO BE REVECTORED THREE TIMES OUT ON A VOR-A APCH TO WHITEMAN AND DEVIATED FROM HIS ALT TWICE.
FLT PLAN WAS TO VNY VOR THEN TO WHP. 2000 FT STRATUS CEILINGS E 1 1/2 MI VISIBILITY LIGHT TO SOME MODERATE TURB OVER MOUNTAINS TO THE N ON DSCNT. INEXPERIENCED FRONT SEAT PAX BECAME NAUSEATED. PLANE HAD NO AUTOPLT OR HEADING HOLD. SINGLE PLT IFR. VECTORED TO FINAL. HAD PRACTICED APCH NIGHT BEFORE ON COMPUTER (IFT-PRO). I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE IN LOS ANGELES -- DID NOT KNOW ARPT. AFTER VECTORING TO FINAL APCH COURSE FLEW THROUGH THE COURSE 3 TIMES -- HAD TO BE REVECTORED OUT EACH TIME. THOUGHT I HAD TO DO THE PROC TURN AND COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY ATC WAS SETTING ME UP AT SUCH A WEIRD ANGLE TO DO THE TURN. ATC GOT MAD AFTER THE THIRD TIME -- MY APPREHENSIVE PAX GOT WORSE. I ASKED ABOUT THE PROC TURN. ONCE THIS WAS FIGURED OUT; DID APCH AND LANDED WHP FINE. IN THIS PROCESS; I BLEW THE ALTS TWICE. I CAN IFR CURRENT. CONCLUSION: 1) ONE PERSON CAN HANDLE ONLY A LIMITED NUMBER OF THINGS. 2) I GOT OVERLOADED AND FIXATED ON HOW I FLEW THE APCH THE NIGHT BEFORE; THIS INCLUDED THE PROC TURN. 3) ATC BY ACTING FRUSTRATED MADE THE SIT WORSE. (I SHOULD NOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN.) 4) THIS WAS A SIMPLE APCH THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ANY PROB. THERE ARE NO SIMPLE APCHS.
