MAINT PERSONNEL TAXIING ACFT TO PARKING IN DEICE PAD HIT WINGTIP ON DEICE BOOM.
OUR CREW OF 4 MECHS HAS JUST REPLACED THE R-HAND ENG ON THE MD80 JET; AND WAS RETURNING FROM AN ENG TRIM RUN TO THE COMPANY HANGAR TO REMOVE THE TRIM HEADS AND OTHER EQUIP. I WAS IN THE L SEAT AND ANOTHER MECH WAS IN THE R SEAT. AS WE TAXIED SE ON TXWY 'T' AND ENTERED THE COMPANY RAMP AT V6 INTXN; THE ONLY AVAILABLE PARKING SLOT WAS ON OUR DEICING PAD IN SLOT X. HAVING SEEN MD80'S IN THAT SLOT BEFORE I CHOSE TO PARK THE PLANE THERE; KNOWING IT WOULD BE A TIGHT SQUEEZE; I TOLD MY PARTNER TO CLOSELY WATCH THE R WING AND I WOULD WATCH THE L. I FOLLOWED THE LINE ON THE GND AND STARTED TO ENTER SLOT X. I CHKED MY WING AND IT WAS CLR OF THE BLAST FENCE NEXT TO THE COMPANY JET SHOP. MY PARTNER IN THE R SEAT WAS CONSTANTLY SAYING 'YOU'RE GOOD; YOU'RE CLR; YOU'RE GOOD; YOU'RE CLR.' GND SPD APPROX 2-3 MPH. HE THEN BROUGHT HIS HEAD INTO THE PLANE AND SAID 'IT LOOKS GOOD; BUT I'M NOT SURE.' THAT'S WHEN WE FELT THE BUMP AND HAD CONTACTED THE #5 DEICE BOOM WITH THE R-HAND WINGTIP (ACTUALLY THE SLAT ON THE WING; WHICH I HAD EXTENDED). I IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE ENGS DOWN AND SET THE PARKING BRAKE. WE WENT OUT TO SEE THE SIT. MY NOSE GEAR WAS ABOUT 6 INCHES TO THE R OF THE YELLOW LEAD-IN LINE AND THE MAINS WERE COMING AROUND TO CTR; BUT NOT QUITE CTRED YET. THE SLAT HAD HIT THE BOOM WHICH WAS IN ITSELF NOT PREVIOUSLY RETURNED TO THE POS WHERE IT BELONGED. IT WAS OFF CTR APPROX 3 FT TOWARDS THE CTRLINE OF BAY X. THE DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE OUTBOARD SLAT AND A SMALL DENT ON THE LEADING EDGE OF THE WING SKIN. THE PLANE WAS TAKEN TO THE HANGAR AND THE LEADING EDGE SLAT WAS REPLACED AND A SMALL REPAIR ACCOMPLISHED TO THE WING LEADING EDGE. I BELIEVE THIS ACCIDENT WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED IF THE DEICE BOOM HAD BEEN PUT IN ITS PROPER PLACED POS AFTER ITS LAST USE. I ALSO PUT PART BLAME ON MY PARTNER AND HIS INDECISION TO STOP ME SHORT AND TAKE A SECOND LOOK. I ALSO BELIEVE WHEN PUTTING LARGER JETS INTO THIS SLOT THERE SHOULD BE WING WALKER REQUIREMENTS. THE PLANE WAS FIXED AND BACK IN SVC IN 24 HRS. I RECEIVED AN INFRACTION FROM THE COMPANY WITH 2 DAYS OFF WITHOUT PAY. MY PARTNER GOT NO TIME OFF.
