Synopsis

FLC FAILED TO TURN ON TO J-34 AS PER ATC CLRNC.

Narrative

DURING THE BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST I GAVE THE FLT ATTENDANTS A 2 BELL SIGNAL TO NOTIFY THEM WE HAD BEEN CLRED FOR TKOF. BOTH THE CAPT AND I NOTICED THE BELLS DID NOT WORK. WE CONTINUED TO TKOF AND PROCEEDED NORMALLY. DURING THE CLBOUT DURING THE CLB CHK; WE ARE REQUIRED TO GIVE THE FLT ATTENDANTS A 1 BELL SIGNAL TO RELEASE THE FLT ATTENDANTS. AT THIS TIME WE WERE ON A 090 DEG HDG AS PER DEP. AGAIN THE BELL SYS DID NOT WORK SO THE CAPT GAVE ME CTL OF THE ACFT AND OPENED THE COCKPIT DOOR AND TOLD THE FLT ATTENDANTS THEY WERE RELEASED. (THIS OCCURRED BELOW 10000 FT AND IN STERILE COCKPIT.) HE THEN TOOK BACK CTL OF THE ACFT. WE CONTINUED TO CLB AND WERE HANDED OFF TO ZAU. SHORTLY THEREAFTER; THE FLT ATTENDANT APPEARED IN THE COCKPIT TO DISCUSS THE CHIME PROB. DURING THIS TIME WE WERE TOLD TO FLY A 090 DEG HDG TO INTERCEPT J-34. I ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC THEN ASSUMED THE CAPT HEARD THE CLRNC. WE THEN CONTINUED TO DISCUSS THE PROB WITH THE FLT ATTENDANTS. WE WERE THEN HANDED OFF TO ZOB WHO ASKED WHAT WAS OUR LAST CLRNC. (WE HAD FLOWN THROUGH J-34 BY SEVERAL MI.) THE CAPT TOLD HIM WE WERE ON A 090 DEG ASSIGNED HDG ONLY. HE THEN CLRED US DIRECT SALEM VOR AND NOTHING ELSE WAS SAID. FACTORS/SOLUTIONS: NEW FO (40 HRS IN TYPE). SHOULD RESOLVE PROB AT CRUISE. NONSTANDARD STERILE COCKPIT. DESIGNATE PF. CAPT AND FO SITUATIONAL AWARENESS. CAPT NOT CLR ON CLRNC.
