GND CTLR ASKED IF THEY WERE HOLDING SHORT AND CAPT TAXIED QUICKLY ACROSS THE RWY.

ON JUN/XX/96 WHILE ACTING AS FO ON ACR FLT FROM DALLAS; TX; TO HOUSTON; TX; WE LANDED ON RWY 12R AT HOUSTON HOBBY ARPT. AFTER TURNING OFF ON TXWY M AT THE END OF RWY 12R; WE WERE TOLD BY HOBBY GND TO USE TXWYS M TO C AND THEN TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 22 ON TXWY C. SINCE OUR GATE WAS IN CONCOURSE X THE CAPT REQUESTED I ASK IF WE COULD USE TXWY M AND SAVE A LITTLE TAXI TIME. I REQUESTED THIS FROM GND CTL AND THEY SAID TO TAXI ON TXWY M AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 22. I READ BACK THE CLRNC AND THE CAPT ALSO ACKNOWLEDGED IT TO ME. A MOMENT LATER HOBBY GND SAID TO CONTINUE OUR TAXI ON TXWY M; CROSS RWY 22; TURN R ON TXWY H; HOLD SHORT OF RWY 12L. I ACKNOWLEDGED THIS TO HOBBY GND AND I HEARD THE CAPT SAY ROGER; TAXI ACROSS AND HOLD. THERE WAS A LOT OF OTHER COMS ON THIS FREQ WHILE WE WERE ALSO TRYING TO MONITOR COMPANY FREQ. AS THE CAPT TURNED ON TXWY H; I GLANCED DOWN A MOMENT TO SEE EXACTLY WHERE GATE ZZ WAS IN OUR COMPANY CHARTS WAS LOCATED AT; AND I NOTICED THAT WE WEREN'T SLOWING TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 12L. I ADVISED THE CAPT OF THIS AND HE SAID; NO THEY CLRED US ON TXWY M TO THE RAMP. I THEN SAW A SMALL SINGLE ENG PLANE ON SHORT FINAL FOR RWY 12L AT THE SAME TIME AS THE CAPT. HOBBY GND ASKED IF WE WERE HOLDING SHORT; BUT THE NOSE OF OUR ACFT WAS ENTERING THE RWY. THE CAPT ELECTED TO EXPEDITE ACROSS THE RWY. THE CAPT APOLOGIZED PROFUSELY TO ATC AND EVEN WENT IN AND CALLED THEM ON THE LANDLINE. THERE WAS AN OBVIOUS BREAKDOWN IN COMS. I CAN ASSURE YOU I WILL MAKE EVERY EFFORT IN THE FUTURE THAT THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. IN MY ESTIMATE; WE WERE WELL CLR OF THE RWY BEFORE THE OTHER ACFT CROSSED THE THRESHOLD.
