Synopsis

FLC HAD COMS PROB WITH ZLC IN CRUISE FLT WHILE ON STAR TO SLC. RPTR STATES THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME HE HAS HAD THE SAME PROB IN THE SAME AREA; MTU VORTAC. ACR DISPATCH ALSO HAD INFO THAT OTHER FLTS HAD EXPERIENCED THE PROB AND SPECULATED THAT ZLC MAY HAVE A GAP IN COMS.

Narrative

WE WERE ON THE SPANE 1 ARR INTO SLC. WE WERE TALKING TO ZLC AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. WE WERE AT FL350 AND AS MY COPLT WAS FLYING; I ASKED FOR A DSCNT IN ORDER TO MAKE THE ALT RESTR AT SPANE IN A NORMAL MANNER. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES AT CONTACTING OUR ASSIGNED CTR FREQ; I BEGAN TO SWITCH TO OTHER FREQS IN ORDER TO MAKE CONTACT WITH SOMEONE AT ZLC BECAUSE IT WAS NOW PAST TIME FOR A NORMAL DSCNT. I FINALLY MADE CONTACT AND AFTER ANOTHER SHORT DELAY HE DIRECTED US TO CONTACT OUR PROPER FREQ. UPON CONTACT THE CTR VECTORED US OFF THE ARR IN ORDER FOR US TO MAKE OUR DSCNT. ONCE WE WERE BACK ON THE ARR; CTR SWITCHED US TO APCH AND WHILE ON THE APCH OUR ASTCALL WENT OFF. IT WAS DISPATCH INFORMING ME THAT ZLC WAS TRYING TO CONTACT US. I TOLD THEM THAT THE PROB HAD BEEN CORRECTED AND I WOULD CONTACT THEM ON THE GND. UPON ARR AT THE GATE I CALLED DISPATCH TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY KNEW ABOUT OUT SIT. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME IN 3 DAYS THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED TO OUR FLTS AT THE SAME PLACE ON THE SAME ARR. I THEN INFORMED THEM THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED TO ME ON THIS ARR ABOUT 6 MONTHS BEFORE BUT HAD NOT BEEN AS BIG A PROB. I FEEL THAT A COMS PROB EXISTS IN THIS AREA AND THAT SOMEONE SHOULD LOOK INTO IT.
